I see a nutrient (herb, food) I should avoid due to one SNP, but elsewhere it is recommended that I consume that same nutrient to support a different SNP. This is confusing. What should I do?Updated 8 months ago

Given that physiology and biochemistry are extremely complex and multidimensional, one has to realize that it is not possible to target one isolated gene without impacting a multitude of others at the same time. This is the reason the StrateGene team recommends each person undertake the improvement of their basic/foundational lifestyle factors first before self-hacking your biochemistry with targeted compounds. The body will find better homeostasis when you remove harmful habits, foods (or infections, toxins), and add in beneficial practices. It is a journey, not a race.

If you do use a specific compound to speed up a particular gene and you know it has the potential to slow another one down, this is powerful information. If you are using this compound to improve certain symptoms, yet side effects are noted, perhaps this compound has affected the other gene more than the one you tried targeting. Observations of how compounds impact genetic expression are powerful as it gives you the ability to evaluate potential side effects or beneficial outcomes. To make for easier interpretation, it is advisable to make one change at a time so you can evaluate your unique reaction. It takes time, self-observation, and a careful, thoughtful approach. Nutritional/biochemical demands also vary with your daily, seasonal, and generational stresses. And so should your response to meeting those needs. Therefore periods of great stress (allergy season, holidays, job/family responsibilities, etc.) may necessitate more vigilance for adequate sleep, exercise, better food choices, targeted compounds. Likewise, when life is smooth sailing, that extra compound that got you through the stress, is no longer necessary and can cause side effects.
