Why is there so much B12 in my Seeking Health product?Updated 4 months ago

Vitamin B12 is included in many of our products in such potent amounts for a number of reasons:

  • Vitamin B12 can be a difficult nutrient to absorb, as it is easily destroyed during digestion. Some individuals lack adequate amounts of enzymes required for absorption through the stomach. Theoretically, in higher doses, higher amounts will be absorbed into the body. We also offer liposomal and lozenge forms to allow for more absorption opportunity. Please note that we do not implement clinical trials to show that there is an increase in absorption with liposomals or lozenges.
  • Many people with genetic mutations such as MTHFR may require higher amounts of this nutrient than normal because B12 is needed for folate to be utilized and methylation to occur.
  • Genes that are not functioning properly due to stress and toxins, what Dr Lynch calls "dirty genes", need folate and B12 for DNA repair and methylation processes. Often B12 is being used up quickly for healing and detoxification, so higher amounts are required than normal.

We always ask that you speak with your healthcare provider if you are concerned about taking a such a high dose of these nutrients. Your naturopath, or holistic practitioner will also be able to tell you what amount is right for you. Dr Lynch always recommends that you start out with a smaller dose of vitamin B12 by splitting the lozenges or capsules, or lowering the powder and liquid doses, and work your way up in dose ONLY if needed.
