Why are Seeking Health products not labeled organic?Updated 4 months ago
Only naturally derived ingredients can be organic. Many of our products cannot be labeled “organic” because some of the active ingredients are synthesized in a laboratory.
Sounds scary?
Don't be alarmed. In fact, the nutrients that are synthesized are the same nutrient that you would find in nature, but even more superior. These nutrients, such as the chelated minerals, are synthesized for superior absorption, bioavailability, and a higher potency of a specific nutrient.
Absorption and Bioavailability
Minerals, for example, are pure elements: they cannot be broken down into any further compounds. But in nature, they are usually found in foods or in plant or meat tissues. Because our bodies do not recognize pure elements on their own, they are difficult to absorb. Seeking Health uses chelated minerals. Chelation is the process of combining a mineral with an amino acid or other "recognizable" compound so that the body can absorb, utilize, and tolerate the mineral. The process of chelation requires synthetically combining the carrier compound to the mineral, making the nutrient "synthetic". But in reality, the mineral itself is natural – it is an element from nature. For example, one of our magnesium products, Magnesium Gylcinate Powder, utilizes magnesium that is synthetically combined with glycine to create a well-tolerated magnesium with few gastrointestinal side effects.
Genetic SNPs and Utilization of Nutrients
There are many other reasons for synthesizing a nutrient. Factors such as genetic SNPs/polymorphisms prevent our bodies from absorbing natural forms of certain nutrients – even from the food you eat! For example, the polymorphism associated with the MTHFR gene, that may lower the body's ability to convert natural folate into the form we can use; L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF). This is the reason why Dr Lynch has formulated Seeking Health supplements to contain L-5-MTHF - this is the folate that is already in the form your body needs it!
But it cannot be found in nature in this form; so it must be synthesized.
Potency
Even for nutrients that are found in nature, there are reasons for synthesizing them. Many individuals require higher amounts of a specific nutrient, such as vitamin C, which can be difficult to consume enough food, such as citrus fruits, to obtain their requirement. By synthesizing a nutrient, you can concentrate more of it into a smaller volume, like a capsule or softgel.
Seeking Health's Plant-Based Products
There are a few Seeking Health products that are plant-based. Seeking Health always aims to use organic, naturally-derived when possible. For example, the fruit and vegetable blends in the multivitamins and Pure Greens powder are organic blends. Seeking Health strives to create a pure, toxin-free, consistent and potent product line, so that you can use our supplements to support your holistic health and wellness regimen.
