Who is Magnesium Glycinate Powder intended for and how to use.Updated 12 days ago

  • Gentle glycinate form of magnesium for GI comfort
  • Supports healthy nervous system function and muscle relaxation
  • Supports normal sleep, mood, and feelings of calm

Magnesium Glycinate Powder provides a bioavailable bisglycinate chelate form of magnesium in a flexible powder format. This convenient powder makes adjusting dosage for individual needs easy, as it can be added to water, juice or your favorite food or beverage. Magnesium is an abundant mineral naturally present in the body that acts as a cofactor in hundreds of enzymatic processes and systems. It helps to regulate biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, and healthy blood pressure. It may help support healthy muscle relaxation by inhibiting calcium influx and smooth muscle contraction. Magnesium is important for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. It may contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy bone structure and is needed for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione.†

Do you need to supplement with magnesium? Over half of the population is thought to be deficient in this essential mineral.

However, many types of magnesium have laxative side effects. That’s why it's important to choose a well-absorbed form known to minimize unpleasant gastrointestinal (GI) reactions.

Magnesium Glycinate provides 200 mg of magnesium glycinate chelate per serving. This well-tolerated form of magnesium is bound to glycine to support relaxation and GI comfort.

Magnesium Glycinate is ideal for those seeking a gentle and well-absorbed form of magnesium. The convenient powder makes it easy to adjust your serving size as needed. Magnesium glycinate minimizes the GI side effects experienced from common magnesium supplements by binding magnesium to the amino acid glycine. Glycine also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain to support relaxation and a healthy response to stress.

Magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzymatic processes in the body. Magnesium is found inside bones and muscle and is essential for healthy nervous system function, bone strength, and muscle relaxation.

According to some estimates, up to 75 % of the U.S. population does not get enough magnesium. Unfortunately, serum magnesium tests do not accurately reflect magnesium status. This is because magnesium is often found within cells and not in the serum.

Magnesium deficiency can result in a multitude of symptoms: muscle cramps and twitching, heart palpitations, racing thoughts, fatigue, and poor sleep. Low magnesium intake also makes it challenging to maintain healthy blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Magnesium Glycinate by Seeking Health® contains magnesium in the glycinate form. Compared to magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide, magnesium glycinate supplementation is less likely to stimulate GI upset or loose bowels. Chelating to the amino acid glycine reduces the irritation that magnesium can exert in the GI tract.

Glycine is also considered a calming amino acid. Glycine receptors in the brain regulate feelings of calm. Glycine supports healthy sleep, relaxation, and response to stress. It has the most basic structure of all amino acids, making it very well-absorbed when bound to magnesium.

Magnesium Glycinate supports healthy:

  • Bone health and density
  • Sleep and mood

What is the difference between magnesium glycinate and magnesium malate? Which should I choose?

Magnesium Malate combines magnesium with malic acid. This combination can be particularly helpful for those who looking for malic acid, which may help support energy production in the cells. This form contains more magnesium per 2.5 gram serving than does our Magnesium Glycinate. Our Magnesium Glycinate is magnesium bound to two glycine molecules and is an amino acid chelate. This form of magnesium dissolves more quickly and rarely causes adverse gastrointestinal side effects often seen with other forms of magnesium when supplemented in higher amounts. Consult with your healthcare professional to determine what form of magnesium might be right for you.*

Why is citric acid used in Magnesium Glycinate Powder?

Citric acid is used to influence the pH and the flavor profile of the powder (while the powder is "unflavored," magnesium compounds are quite basic, and this can cause magnesium products to leave an unpleasant taste or sensation in the mouth). The citric acid used in the current formulation is originally derived from corn, with no corn allergen remaining in the finished product.
