Stress Nutrietns Dr. Lynch Q&AUpdated 4 hours ago
Question | Answer |
Can Stress Nutrients cause stomach gurgles, bloating and more bowel movements? I am having these symptoms since taking this. Is this something that will work itself out? I am only taking one pill per day right now. | Hi Jaime - It's possible as it has herbs in it and zinc. Herbs do have a variety of effects on individuals. If not yet taking it with food, I do recommend taking it after a meal. It's not common that people experience what you are but I would say it is possible. If it is troubling for you and not improving after taking it after a meal, then consider switching to Lithium Orotate and take 1 capsule of this after any meal of the day on an as-needed basis to support a healthy mood.* In health, |
Hi Dr Lynch, My son (28 yrs) recently moved back to the east for grad school and is experiencing seasonal allergies as well as acute illnesses (did not experience this nearly as much when he lived in California). He’s been a distance runner (collegiate) for ~13 yrs so I believe the demand on his body makes him more susceptible. When he was younger I used a German homeopathic formula (allernest) that worked pretty well. I’m looking for something to help support his adrenals (running, grad school demands) as well as his reaction to allergens. Would this be a good product? I already have him on your electrolytes. He will not take more than 2 or 3 supplements so I’m looking for the most powerful/effective supplement you have to help. Thanks for all you do. | Hi Jill You're right. Training like that can definitely wear a body down. I hear him on the 3 supplements a day. It is exceptionally important that he eats really well and sleeps well and works out moderately. This guide on Histamine Intolerance can give him some insights: I like your thinking about the Stress Nutrients as stress can deplete many nutrients and increase histamine - but I don't think it makes the cut for the top 3. Consider:
These three are foundational. I'd like to add in two others as I believe they're really important:
He does these plus eats well and sleeps well, he will see himself in a much better way ;) In health, |
After I had asked you about my nighttime wakefulness, I had a saliva cortisol/hormone test. My results Cortisol levels- AM= 5.52 NOON= 0.48 EVENING= 0.37 NIGHT= less than 0.2 . DHEA- AM=14, Testosterone- AM= 32, DHT- AM=less than 6.0, Melatonin- AM= 42.1(H), Melatonin PM= 29, 17-OHP- AM=54.0, Androstenedione- AM= 88 (H), Progesterone/Estradiol ratio = 47. I have been following the protocol you suggested with 1 adrenal cortex AM (as needed), 2 phoshatidylserine PM, 1 serotonin nutrients PM, fish oil, stress nutrients AM, no blue light, cold room, etc. My questions: What do you make of my results? Is there anything different I should do to normalize my cortisol levels? Should I adjust any of the supplement doses or take additional doses during the day? I am currently on natural compounded bio-identical hormone pellets and am considering changing to an oil or cream. Thank you! | Hi Martha - I prefer going by symptoms rather than lab values. How are you feeling? Given your cortisol appears to be lower than it should, I'd consider:

Thanks for all you do! Trying to conceive is stressful and I’m wondering if this can be taken during the two week wait, prior to a positive pregnancy test? And if this can be taken if you are also taking letrozole and lovenox? | Hi T - TTC can be stressful yes. Yes, you may use Stress Nutrients and then stop once you've successfully conceived. This is safe to use along with the medications you mentioned. I guess my wife and I cheated a bit. She got pregnant every time when we were on vacation. Consider doing the same thing. Take a vacation and enjoy your time away and with each other. The stress of 'needing to perform' to conceive is way too high pressure. I was reading about letrozole and see that it may be used in your case due to PCOS. If you're needing support for PCOS, consider healthy support of hormones with:*
I just did a Fertility Webinar that's available to Members. You can watch it there - it's about 2 hours long and talks about fertility in men and women - and I discuss PCOS and sperm health. I do recommend becoming a member as you'll learn a ton. Make sure your man is using supportive nutrients as well - as sperm healthy is incredibly important:*
I wish you both the best :) In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, so kind of you to answer questions. Your team encouraged me to post here. My 15yo had a brain map that showed an elevated stress response, but basically that her system is trapped in "flight". This seemed to really ramp up for her during COVID lockdown year, and manifests in avoiding school or being late for school. The school part of this is VERY stressful. VERY. Apart from this she does well in school, has many friends. She's also very irritable. During COVID lockdown her gut health took a turn for the worse too, combined with what I will call teenage friends who eat poorly. She has terrible belching, like they are loud and terrifying. The naturopath recommended daily deep breathing to calm her system. IT's a nice idea, but this is a TEENAGER. We need a roadmap that is not so overwhelming. Can you recommend the most efficient path to address some of these ongoing issues? So we need to help: 1) gut health 2) a system trapped in "flight". We are MTHFR and she takes a Garden of Life multi. Should she also be on a different type of multi? Thank you. | Hi Holly - I hear you. Those were crazy times and the virus really traps the brain in that flight pattern. The virus does this by blocking acetylcholine receptors which the brain needs acetylcholine to calm down. Thus, consider:
This is a good start for her. Keep me posted how she's doing and we can make tweaks as needed. Once her flight is calmed down, her digestion will calm down and be more activated and her symptoms will improve. In health, |
Is this C/I in high cortisol states? | Hi Alex - Opposite. This is indicated in those with high cortisol states as it supports healthy cortisol levels.* I'd say Adrenal Cortex is contraindicated in high cortisol states. Consider:

Thank you Dr. Lynch for what you do! Looking for guidance. I am 39- Slow COMT I believe. High estrogen, infertility, endometriosis ect. Magnesium Glycinate has been amazing! Rented a home with mold 3 years ago, Our adopted son came home 2 years ago (Hello stress) I got ever sickness from his school for a year including covid. On the road to recovery now. I feel better eating high protein but crave sugar/carbs for an emotional pick me up-then comes the shame, Can you be slow COMT and fast MAOA? I also struggle with low energy, low libido, low motivation. Struggling with sulfur sensitivity and Phenol sensitivity (I get pings on my skin when I take vita c) I tried L TYROSINE and felt great for a bit(motivated/confidant) and then terrible headache and angry but not sure I should mess with serotine either. Oh and high histamine and hpylori. Any suggestions would be amazing. Thank you! Currently taking 1/2 MF B complex- mag glycinate- molybdenum-coq10-p-5-p-reishi- royal jelly-perilla-vita dand fish eggs. Thank you so much! | Hi Lauren - I'm helping out with answering some of the questions. Yes, Dr. Lynch is great and helps a lot of people :). Glad to hear Magnesium Glycinate has been a game-changer for you. There's a bit to unpack here. First of all, yes. You can be slow COMT and fast MAOA. It's difficult to tell from what you say here whether this is you. It may be. But your symptoms could also be from fast COMT and slow MAOA. At least in my opinion. Or slow COMT and slow MAOA. Functional testing can be very useful to determine how your genes are expressing. High estrogen, infertility, and endometriosis are also associated with histamine. In fact, estrogen and histamine influence each other. MAOA is involved in histamine, dopamine, and serotonin breakdown which is where you seem to struggle. I would not suggest supplements that would increase your serotonin, at least not at this stage. Two important points:
It may be a good idea to work with a healthcare practitioner to confirm or rule out mold biotoxins and SIBO as these can cause ongoing health issues. In the meantime, I suggest:
You do seem to struggle with low dopamine symptoms, but I feel that high histamine (possibly due to mold biotoxins or other) may be interfering with healthy dopamine breakdown, thus the reaction to tyrosine. You have to deal with the histamine causes first. All the best! |
Good morning, I have questions regarding two of my children. First my 26 year old daughter. She’s always had anxiety and hated going to school and change. She would go in waves and I thought she would outgrow it. Well two years ago she basically hit a wall with her health. She was reacting to everything she ate. Thyroid went a little crazy and couldn’t mentally or emotionally make it through a full day of school. Long story short after much research on my own and Dr visits. We figured out we had mold in our home. Master shower was never sealed and mold behind tile. We removed mold and tested house. Have been detoxing for the past 1.5 years. We just did 20 rounds of neurofeedback hoping that would help with depression, but My daughter is still struggling mentally though. Depression and anxiety. She hates going to school. She withdraws from her peers and basically has only casual smile and say hi friends. Nobody she hangs out with. We have been working with our naturopath for two years. She does show inflammation in her brain from her QEEG. At first we didn’t know if it was from the mold, it’s gone down some but still present. Two months ago she told me she didn’t want to live anymore and so we put her on an antidepressants Zoloft and the Dr ran a genetic test for depression. I was reading your book at the time so I was glad to test her. She does have the MTHFR 677tx and the COMT G/G rs4680. I understand that is a fast COMP. She had more symptoms of slow COMP than fast. But has a lot in both. So I don’t know how to supplement her. The Dutch test showed her low is some estrogen when we tested her 9 months ago. She’s been taking Zoloft for 7 weeks. She says she notices it sometimes but not all the time. I hate to have her be on it long term. The idea was to help her thrive and bridge the gap until we can get her thriving again. She is also on a high dose methyl b vitamin, NP thyroid, Cellcore detox supplements. Vit D/K, S-acetyl-L-Glutathion. Her other symptoms are fatigue, but seems to be better since starting the Zoloft, severe mental cramps, depression and social anxiety. A little obsessive, but where we were two years ago do much better. I am curious what you would recommend for her. I’d really like to get her off her antidepressant, but she needs to be in a good spot. I wonder about SAMe, adrenal cortex, stress nutrient, the methyl free b vitamin/multivitamin, tyrosine. Thank you My second question is about my 7 year old daughter. She has similar personality to her older sister and wonder about genetics as well. Some days she fine to go to school, other days she cries and doesn’t want to go. She doesn’t like social things as well and other times she’s fine. Most evening she gets really uncooperative and pushes back on everything we ask. And has an emotional meltdown. I currently have her taking your kids multivitamins chewable a few days a week. I wonder about stress nutrients for her? Or what you recommend? Thank you Autumn McDowell | Hi Autumn - You shared a lot of great information which is quite helpful. I still feel that it's best if I refer you to ElizmaLambert.com as there are so many variables at play here - and we don't have time for too much experimentation. Zoloft works by keeping serotonin in the brain longer. Inflammation - caused by mold and persistent stress - depletes serotonin. My thoughts:
Keep it simple. For your younger daughter:
You should notice changes within the same day. In health, |
Hi! Is this something kids can take in a lesser dose? My 8 year old seems to get eye tics and complains of his eyes bothering him when he gets anxious. I thought it was too much of his multivitamin or histamine nutrients, but even after a week of stopping both he has the eye thing today (and it’s before his tennis match) which is why I’m thinking he is anxious. It stopped mid week so I don’t think it is related to the supplements (although I still haven’t given any more). Is there a recommendation for kids and anxiety? He is homozygous A for mthfr. I usually give him the kids optimal MF vitamin, histamine nutrients (red face when exercising and was getting nosebleeds but this has stopped since giving histamine nutrients), and your optimal fish oil. He is gluten intolerant and doesn’t consume it. We have tried GABA in the past per our naturopath but not sure it helped this last time we used it. Thank you! | Hi Steph - Yes for sure. Consider 1 capsule in the morning after breakfast. You were thinking on point - good calls to pause those supplements. Additionally, consider:
That should help him immensely. In health, |
Hello! Can Stress Nutrients be taken along with Brain Nutrients and Optimal Focus. Not intending to take all three daily but on an as needed basis :) | Hi Carrie - Great question. Yes - it's a great trio. I'd also consider Phosphatidyl Serine as well and possibly instead of Stress Nutrients. Read about Phosphatidyl Serine and see which one may work better for you. They are similar but the Phosphatidyl Serine has a more nootropic vibe than the Stress Nutrients. In health, |
Good morning, I'm looking for help for my 17 year old son. I'm not sure where to start with him. He struggles with a racing mind that keeps him from sleeping. He also struggles with depression and ADHD symptoms but I feel like so many of his issues stem from not being able to get good quality sleep. He started to turn to THC vapes to calm his mind and I'm desperate to find a better alternative to help him. I have looked through all the products and am just not sure where to start. | Hi Jennifer - I'd really like him to consider THC edibles vs vapes. Vapes are just so bad for the lungs. There are many things going on with a racing mind especially at night.
Check back in with me in about a week. You should see some significant improvements. In health, |
Hi Dr Lynch, i very much appreciate your wealth of advice in my previous questions. It has been so helpful. My mother is 75 and suffers anxiety/mild depression. She is on blood pressure meds and very low dose SSRI Lexapro. She has been getting vertigo like episodes for 15 years +sometimes followed by a headache, tingling on the lips and fingers sometimes. She may be forgetful for a few moments- not being able to say certain words, blury vision. All symptoms which indicated TIA. However MRI shows no TIA only migraines. The doctor says it's all related to stress/anxiety. Mum is a very passionate person, doctor calls it anxiety! She is a bit of a pesimist. Her bloods are excellent for her age. Cholesterol bit high at 6.2. The last year has developed a very itchy rash around her chest right side right shoulder and under arm. Doctor says dry skin. I feel it's more than that. The vertigo symptoms are happening more consistently. Bit of reflux followed by nausea. She has always had a very hightened sense of smell. Would you recommend stress nutrients for this or anything else that would go with it? I feel like the ssri may be causing it. Thank you kindly | Hi Svetlana - I'm helping out answering some of the questions we are receiving. Your mum sounds like she's pretty healthy for her age :). Her symptoms sound like she may have higher histamine levels. SSRIs like Lexapro can make more work for already slow MAOA genes, so maybe she needs to look at cleaning her MAOA gene. Cleaning her MAOA gene may include taking Stress Nutrients. If it's dry skin then Fish Oil may be a good option. However, I agree with you that I think it's more than that. I suggest trying her on Histamine Nutrients 1 capsule twice a day. For her forgetful moments, I would suggest Optimal Focus. Take 1 capsule with or without food. See how she goes. Increase to 3 capsules once a day only if needing more support. Take up to 5 days consecutively, and stop for 3 days. Let us know how she goes :) Regards, |
Hi Dr. Lynch - My teenager daughter is slow & fast COMT (3 symptoms each in Laundry List 1) & slow MAOA. She's had what appears to be anxiety (diagnosed by therapist) for the last couple of years, however, it has significantly increased over the past year after enduring a bad concussion last fall and being on a very challenging, elite sports team. Medication felt like a last resort, however, after having a panic attack this summer at a tournament, she asked for help. She was put on fluoxetine at the end of July and bumped up to 20 mg about 3 weeks ago. Last week, it was clear that it was making her anxiety way worse and she was having nose bleeds, major school/performance anxiety, etc. Also note that in the spring she started having migraines with aura and her neurologist recommended 400 mg of magnesium daily which she started consistently last week. I've read your book and have been researching how we can help her fix this at it's source. I'm not sure if we should consider the Stress Nutrients, Ashwaganda or something else. I've also noticed she has perfectionist tendencies, has trouble focusing and her problem solving skills aren't great but she is a hard worker/achiever in general. Thank you for your consideration. | Hi Tara - I'm helping out answering some of the questions we are receiving. First of all, defer to your daughter's primary healthcare practitioner for advice. Below are just some of my thoughts. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's concussion. Concussions, similar to TBI (traumatic brain injury), cause a rapid release of brain neurotransmitters such as glutamate which can result in over-excitation of brain neurons. Fluoxetine is an SSRI that may put more pressure on an already slow MAOA and affect other neurotransmitters such as dopamine and histamine in the process. It sounds like this is what happened to your daughter. Histamine can increase glutamate release in the brain. I would suggest:
She may not need all of the above. Try her on one at a time and see how she feels. When it comes to her history of concussion:
There may be some other root causes for her anxiety that may need to be addressed. I strongly recommend working with a healthcare practitioner who may be able to identify these for her. All the best :) Regards, |
Hello Dr. Lynch, I've been dealing with gallbladder sludge/attacks every other month for almost 10 years. Much research has led me to believe that it must be due to high estrogen with one of my ovaries, which is why it happens every other month. I struggle with anxiety/panic attacks, terrible response to stressful situation, hard time taking in a deep breath, difficulty falling asleep, and at times low levels of depression (probably because I feel like crap!) Usually these symptoms occur 1-2 weeks before my period. I take your Optimal magnesium, zinc, gallbladder nutrients and liver nutrients every day. I also have Adrenal Cortex for when I wake up feeling "trashed" as you say. Would you recommend I add Stress Nutrients or Dopamine Nutrients? What is the difference between those? Should I also add your DIM supplement to support healthy levels of estrogen?? Your help is GREATLY appreciated! | Hi Goska - Great thorough question - thank you I recommend you consider:
That should help a lot. Keep me posted in a couple weeks how you're doing. In health, |
Hello- I messaged awhile back regarding high liver enzymes and at your recommendation, I have been taking liver nutrients at dinner. I’ve also done 1/2 a glutathione plus in the am and take your B complex every other day or so. I recently started stress nutrients (2 - 1 at breakfast then 1 at lunch) and 1 lithium orotate at night. My sleep has massively improved- falling asleep quicker and staying asleep. However, I’m still waking fairly early (4:30-5:30), and I suspect it’s higher cortisol and/or BS issues. As a side night, I have had mildly elevated BP and struggling to lose weight despite clean diet (lots of protein, veggies). Could I take a 3rd stress nutrients later in the day? Would it be beneficial to add adrenal cortex in the AM or Phosphatidyl Serine at night? I am definitely still having some mid day crashing but it seems to be a little better. I do have a slower MAOA if that matters. Magnesium (all types) seem to worsen sleep eventually. | Hi KJ - Thank you for the update. Glad to hear you're much better! Consider:
This should support the healthy sleep duration and the midday crashing as it support healthy energy levels.* Midday, if you are feeling that crash coming, consider:

I take Armour Thyroid 30mg at 4am. Can I take SN 1 at a time? Such as: 1 @ 7am and 1 @11am? It says to take 3. And why is you live in CA is the dose just 1? I live in Oregon. | Hi Shannon - Yes, you can take 1 capsule of Stress Nutrients at 7am and another one at 11am. Sometimes spreading them out can be more effective. Just make sure you take your thyroid medication on an empty stomach without food or other supplements and wait at least 30 minutes to an hour. Or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. I'm not 100% sure about the second part of your question since I live in Australia :), but I believe California has different regulations regarding supplements than other states. My best guess is that it may contain an ingredient that needs to be below a certain dose according to California regulations. Thus the different dose suggestions. Regards, |
Hi there, I tend to be a very anxious individual and I have found stress nutrients to help me feel less anxious on most days, especially at work. I just feel more calm and collected when I take it. However, I keep seeing articles cautioning against ashwaghandha. Most recently I have seen claims that it can cause liver damage and that sounds concerning. Is this anything I need to be worried about if I am taking this daily? I was also wondering how many milligrams of ashwagandha is in a serving of stress nutrients? Thank you in advance, Hope | Hi Hope - It's great that Stress Nutrients is helping you :). I'm not sure how much Ashwagandha is in the Stress Nutrients, but considering the wide variety of ingredients in the formula it wouldn't be high. Liver toxicity is very rare and Ashwagandha is considered generally safe. I'll also point out that the studies reporting liver issues acknowledge that the products labeled as Ashwagandha may not have been Ashwagandha at all, and could also have contained other contaminants. For instance, it is not uncommon for herbal products from India or Asia to sometimes contain heavy metals. Seeking Health tests all their products and ingredients for possible contaminants which include heavy metals, GMOs, microbial contamination, and more. You can read more about this here: Hope this sets your mind at ease :). Regards, |
Wondering if this supp would help with reducing blood pressure? My husband suffers high BP and it is hereditary. He is also an anxious person and it goes up when he has to go to the doctors. Would this help? | Hi Svetlana - It sounds like your husband suffers from 'white coat syndrome'. Stress Nutrients could be of benefit here. I suggest taking 1 - 3 capsules in the morning. Your husband may also have a dirty NOS3 gene. NOS3 is involved in making endothelial nitric oxide which helps support healthy blood flow and blood pressure.* Brain Nutrients and Pre-Workout Nutrients can help support nitric oxide production. But speak to his healthcare practitioner first, especially if he's on any medications. Regards, |
Q1: Is this ok to take alongside your prenatal (stopping when pregnant)? Q2: is this ok to take alongside your B complex plus? Thank you. | Hi Maria - You may use Stress Nutrients as needed as long as you are not pregnant. Once you're pregnant, you'll need to stop as the herbs aren't researched during pregnancy. You may use Stress Nutrients while breastfeeding. You can take B Complex Plus with the Stress Nutrients yes. However, I do recommend using the Prenatal Essentials MF version and taking 1 capsule with breakfast and 1 capsule with lunch. I do not recommend additional B vitamins beyond the Prenatal Essentials MF as too many B vitamins can trigger stress and anxiety. I recommend the MF version of the Prenatal Essentials as it uses a less stimulating form of folate called Folinic acid which is an active form of folate - superior to folic acid - yet it's not as mentally stimulating as methylfolate. I would be curious to know what product Dr Lynch would recommend for a mom watching her son play high school football. I feel so tense and know my cortisol and adrenals and nerves are so high because of the nervousness. I know he is a dad of sport players as well so I’m sure he knows the feeling. it would just be so nice if I could take something to help keep me to be more calm before or maybe I take something after to help support my nervous system. Or both!! Thank you for the help. | Hi Alexa - Ha. I hear you. Dad's could benefit from this, too ;) There are two things I recommend:
I recommend having your son try 1 capsule of Optimal Focus in the morning on a non-game day. It may help him 'lock in' and make decisions without over thinking and feel confident. If he likes how he feels, then he can take it on an actual game day. Have him look into our Pre-Workout Nutrients and drink 30 minutes before working out - and also our Optimal Electrolyte. My son played right tackle his senior year - loved it. Best to him! In health, |
I’m pretty sure the old version said it was safe while breastfeeding so I have been taking it for a couple months now. Is there a reason I shouldn’t take this while breastfeeding? I’m under extreme stress and it is much needed. | Hi Moody ;) You're correct. We have not changed the formulation so my design team must have made a mistake. I'll have them correct it. If you feel you need more support, consider Lithium Orotate for those days when you feel Stress Nutrients isn't cutting it. If you're feeling exhausted in the morning, consider Adrenal Cortex with breakfast to support healthy cortisol levels.* In health, |
Are Stress Nutrients and Seratonin Nutrients almost the opposite of each other, as in, do they stack or do they just cancel each other out? Ps I am joining your membership this week as I always have stuff I want to ask you 😂 | Hi Annie - They are not the opposite no. The opposite of Serotonin Nutrients is more Lithium Orotate. You can stack Stress Nutrients with Serotonin Nutrients. Joining the Membership is smart :) - Lots of information there and I'll be on a live call in September. In health, |
Hi Dr Ben, You answered one of my previous questions on Calcium-D-Glucarate, DIM and histamine, which was very helpful. I have been feeling much better lately. One of your suggestions was stress nutrients which is definitely working out for me. Can I continue to take this (slow COMT) or should I take breaks? Sometimes I read about the body getting used to adaptogens and losing their impact on the body. Thanks in advance for answering my question. | Hi Lenneke - You may use Stress Nutrients long term. I prefer using it on an as-needed basis. Every one is different - if you're feeling good on your current program, stay on it. You may also try skipping a day or two and then taking Stress Nutrients and see what you feel. In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, I have a very very sensitive nervous system post covid with high anxiety, panic, ear ringing, reflux, nausea, gastroparesis, insomnia, very easily stressed/triggered, brain fog, body feels hot inside, crying spells and dizziness. Some of this I had precovid and it just amplified. I have recently started the supplements you had recommended- histamine digest, fish oil, glutathione, optimal focus. I also take gabapentin (for anxiety/nervous system), compund thyroid (Hashimotos, levels are stable), Trazodone (for sleep), Protonix, have progesterone IUD (perimonpause), magnesium biglycinate, OTC antihistamine. Have tried many SSRIs/SNRIs in the past and they work for anxiety for awhile then stop. Also have tried hormones which make anxiety worse. I hate being on all these prescriptions but we just cannot get my nervous system settled down. I feel like I am in fight, flight or freeze much of the time. My Dutch test shows cortisol in the normal range however I am not convinced my cortisol has been normal for years. I do not tolerate meds or supplements well. They tend to cause anxiety. I get anxiety from B vitamins, even the methyls. I am confused about which, if any, of the stress or adrenal support products would be worth trying. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! | Hi Sandra - Your symptoms post-covid resemble high histamine symptoms which are quite common after covid infections or with long-covid. You may have had some weaknesses here prior to covid, as you pointed out. If you get anxious on methylated supplements then it may be that you are experiencing 'methyl-trapping'. In this case, you may want to use B Complex MF instead. Histamine Nutrients could also be of benefit as it supports brain histamine breakdown.* Stress Nutrients and/or Ashwagandha could certainly be of benefit since ongoing stress can make histamine symptoms worse.* I highly recommend that you work with a practitioner who can help guide you through this maze of symptoms and get your biochemistry more balanced. Regards, |
Hi Dr. Lynch! I have a very, very Type A college aged daughter that has been suffering with daily headaches that often become migraines. We have seen a neurologist and have ruled out all the terrible things that her headaches could be, but they would like her on some heavy duty migraine drugs that come with some pretty awful side effects that will likely impact her studies in a way that would make her very unhappy. We have recently gone to a higher protein diet, added in the electrolytes with half her body weight in water daily, started on your Magnesium. I would like to add the Stress Nutrients, but would there be anything else you'd recommend to stop the daily headaches? She is very active. Works out daily and tries to get good sleep...as good as possible with roommates and college fun. I'm hoping to help give her some help with the headaches. Thank you so much!! Your advice in invaluable! | Hi Mitzi - Headaches can be caused by many things:

Hi Dr Lynch, I appreciate you taking time looking at our questions. I have a 7 yo daughter on the autism spectrum, which no surprise she gets stressed and anxiety easy. We are working on removing things from her environment to help with managing her stress but we are still needing some support. I’m not sure if stress nutrients or the serotonin nutrients is better for her. She also has a hard time falling asleep at night- we need to use melatonin to help her fall asleep. (We have also tried using optimal focus for her for other reasons but that has negative results for her- she gets very irritable when taking it) Thank you! | Hi Eloise - I suspect she may do well with 1 capsule of Histamine Nutrients and 1/2 to 1 capsule of Phosphatidyl Serine (on a bite of food) before bed to support a healthy onset of sleep. The microbiome of those on the spectrum tends to be high histamine so I'd consider supporting this with 1 capsule of Histamine Digest with meals that are higher histamine containing from foods and drinks to support a healthy histamine level.* High histamine is associated with anxiety, stress, difficulty falling asleep, headaches, nose bleeds, skin issues. I highly recommend our Histamine Workbook to help guide you in finding things that may be associated with increasing or triggering her histamine levels - if they are indeed elevated - and they commonly are. I don't think Serotonin Nutrients is a good fit nor do I think Stress Nutrients is. I may be wrong but I would like to see if the above recommendations support her. In health, |
Hello, I currently take the optimal prenatal. I have the double variant MTHFR. I seem to respond well to the optimal prenatal, however, I have five little boys and also homeschool and you can imagine how crazy and anxiety producing that can be. I am currently breast-feeding and looking for adrenal support options especially for times of stress. I was not sure if this is the supplement to start with, also is this OK to take with the optimal prenatal or is it too much of any one nutrient? Thank you! | Hi Ruth - I hear you. 5 boys - that's a lot of boys ;) I have 3. That was stressful...still is at times despite them being 21, 19 and 16. Some things to consider:
These three should support you quite well! :) In health, |
Hi Dr Lynch, having a hard time with severe anxiety/feel very startled irritated easily and organization unable to tolerate SSRIs (I do have SCL6A4) and also have slow COMTs. Cannot tolerate stimulants. Would this be an option to help me calm down but also need something that will help with attention/procrastination. | Hi Shelley - I'd consider:
Start here. If needing additional support, then I'd consider adding in 1-3 capsules of Stress Nutrients with breakfast. Make sure you are having protein-based meals and not carb or sugary based meals or snacks too often as they cause blood sugar spikes and crashes leading to all sorts of mood issues. If you are finding yourself worse just before ovulation, say day 9 to 15, then the estrogen spikes may be making your anxiousness and moods (PMS) worse. Consider taking 1 capsule of DIM+I3C say on Day 5 to Day 15 to support healthy estrogen levels and thus, healthy dopamine levels and a healthy response to stress.* DIM+I3C is a game changer for women dealing with high levels of estrogen as it supports healthy estrogen levels - and quite fast.* In health, |
I've had recent traumatic experience. I suffer from PTSD, depression, and im irritable most days. I constantly feel agitated. My sleeping is terrible, I can't fall asleep and my energy levels plummet in the afternoon/evening. My face is swollen, especially in the mornings and I'm finding it hard to lose weight. I try to eat a healthy balanced diet and on some days walk on the treadmill. I tried your serotonin but I couldn't handle the acid reflux. Can I take stress nutrients for this matter, should I take it along with something else. | Hi Olivia - I like your pick. I do recommend Stress Nutrients for this. Take 3 capsules in the morning upon waking along with a glass of Optimal Electrolyte. With a protein based breakfast, add in Phosphatidyl Serine and take at night after dinner as well to support healthy cortisol levels and a healthy mood and focus.* When your energy levels plummet in the evening, go to bed - even if it's earlier than you want. You'll only need to do this for a little while until your body recharges. Sleep recharges your batteries. Sleep more. It's annoying I know -but when you're tired - take the moment and sleep. Before bed, consider also a capsule of Histamine Nutrients to support a healthy onset of sleep.* Here's it more clearly presented:

Hello! I found out I have the slow COMT gene mutation. I have always struggled with stress management, anxiety and depression. I was hoping that this supplement would be helpful and I took it for three days and felt like my depression got worse. I know some people react differently to ashwagandha and rhidiola. Do you think that be what it could be what it was? Do you recommend taking a supplement with this? Side note: I have tried SSRIs for years in the past and have never had success so that is not an option. I’m trying to find a natural way to supplement for my stress and anxiety and depression outside of changing my diet and exercise. | Hi Kaitlyn - I think it's because Stress Nutrients calmed you down when you don't need additional calming down. I believe either Dopamine Nutrients or Serotonin Nutrients are going to be options for you. Please read those product pages and see which one resonates more. I can see taking 1 capsule of Dopamine Nutrients with a protein based breakfast being supportive with healthy mood.* Additionally, consider 1/2 lozenge of Glutathione Plus lozenge upon waking in the morning to support a healthy clear head and healthy neurotransmission.* I'd also read up on Optimal Focus as that supports healthy acetylcholine levels.* After reading those product pages, please ask a question there to help narrow down the options. I feel I need a bit more information to provide you a more direct recommendation. Many things can contribute to anxiety, stress and depression. Read those three product pages and ask another question for more clarity. In health, |
Nicole Heal Jul 6, 2024, 8:01 AM PDT Is Stress Nutrients a good fit for adrenal insufficiency? I am currently taking Biotics Research Cytozyme A.D. as well. My adrenals have been flatlined for nine years since being on high-dose steroids during chemo 10 years ago. | Hi Nicole - The best one to use is Adrenal Cortex to support healthy adrenal sufficiency.* That said, combining Stress Nutrients WITH Adrenal Cortex is a very practical combination. Here's why:
I recommend using Adrenal Cortex in the morning when you wake up quite fatigued and want to support healthy levels of energy.* Do NOT use Adrenal Cortex when you wake up rested and in a good mood. Use Stress Nutrients most mornings - especially on days you know are going to be higher mental and physically stressful as it supports a healthy response to stress.* In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, My husband is 60 years old and has been under stress for many years with his job. He really likes what he does. He has always been very driven and focused. . He takes very good care of himself as far as exercise and we eat very healthy. His blood pressure has been slowly creeping up. In the morning it is around 124/74 and by evening is around 144/85. We started taking walks after dinner. He drinks coffee in am. We lowered the amount. He takes your multivitamin, vitamin d with k, pre workout, creatinine (started about a month ago for shoulder pain. He is bone on bone in both shoulders) joint nutrients, co a 10 and recently added magnesium glycinate in the evening. He is also on a herbal formula with hawthorn, linden, ashwagandha, milk thistle and skullcap. Looking for suggestions to help lower naturally. He does not want to take blood pressure medication. Both his parents had mini strokes later in life (in their 80’s). We really like your supplements and I enjoy learning from you. I have been in the health and wellness industry for over 40 years. We have always taken good care of ourselves. I would say he definitely has MFHR gene. Was wondering if you could suggest anything he could do to work on blood pressure. I have also read about histamine support. I take histamine nutrients for allergies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We would rather take care ourselves than take anything pharmaceutical. Thank you again for all you do! Jen Brown | Hi Jennifer - Sounds like you both are on the right track. Well done :) I'd get his homocysteine levels checked. It's fast and easy. You want to do it fasted in the morning. Make sure he is nose breathing and not mouth breathing. Is he hydrating during the day? I suspect he is dehydrated especially low in potassium. I'd consider 1/2 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenges in the morning along with 1 serving of Optimal Electrolyte to support healthy hydration.* I'd also mix him a liter water bottle of filtered water along with another serving of Optimal Electrolyte for during the day at work. If he is sweating a lot, add in a 1/2 tsp of salt otherwise skip that and just do the Optimal Electrolyte. I'd also check his testosterone levels. We are working on making my new formulation for men - Testosterone Nutrients - but it's not available until end of the year. Start here and let's see how he does. In health, |
After listening to your Instagram video Dr. Lynch I have been on the supplement for about 2 weeks now. I have been unbalanced for 6 months and I have done every test and MRI possible, even was admitted to the hospital. What was head tension was thought to be a sinus infection, but that was clear after giving me rounds after rounds of antibiotics I didn't need. Then I did get an ear infection, but they say my ear is fine, but still plugged and hurts since their is inflammation around it and my face. Took a balance test and it came back not my inner ear. My neck and shoulders are finally starting to release and getting out more and reducing the traumatic situations I was in. Walking on the beach a lot! So, I am asking since I have high anxiety and took myself off several medications (felt horrible on them). If I could take this more than once a day. I am good until the afternoon and then it starts hitting me again. Can I take this more than once a day? I am currently taking 3 capsules in the morning. I don't want to have to rely on conventional meds. Thank you for your time! | Hi Jennifer - Well done! Glad you found that out. I recommend taking Saccharomyces Boulardii and ProBiota HistaminX after dinner after that round of antibiotics. You need to restore your microbiome with healthy microbes.* Yes, you may take this more often as Stress Nutrients is very safe and gentle. Before sleep, I recommend taking Optimal Magnesium to support healthy sleep and a healthy mood. In health, |

Hi Dr. Lynch, I'm waiting for your new Skin Nutrients to come out. I've read where you don't want people taking vitamin B along with multi vitamins while taking the Skin Nutrients. Can the Stress Nutrient be taken with it? I'm also looking for something that can help with a high blood count of MCV (103) and MCH 33.3 Thank you! Jan | Hi Jan - I'm waiting for Skin Nutrients to get released, too! It has been a long journey with this one. I'm so excited for people getting their confidence back. Stress Nutrients can be taken along with Skin Nutrients, yes. A high MCH and MCH needs additional folate and B12. I'd get the Hydroxo B12 with Folinic Acid Lozenges to support healthy B12 and folate levels.* Take 1/2 to 1 full lozenge in the morning. I find that many people do better by taking 1/2 a lozenge in the morning and the other 1/2 at lunch. It provides a more sustained healthy level of energy and not too stimulating this way. Once you get your MCV and MCH levels in the healthy range, stop using the Hydroxo B12 with Folinic Acid Lozenges. For healthy skin, I'd add in Gallbladder Nutrients and take 2 capsules before dinner and after dinner, take 1 capsule of ProBiota HistaminX. Once we get our Fish Oil back in stock, I'd add that in, too. In health, |
Hello! I am looking to lose weight. I’m a 45 year old woman and I have been really stressed for at least a year. I was wondering if I could take the serotonin and stress nutrients at the same time? I also don’t currently take a multi vitamin but if I add one in could I take that with both of those supplements? Is there anything I shouldn’t take with them? Also I heard in one of Dr Lynch’s videos you need to improve your mitochondria. Do you have any tips for doing that? Thank you! Danielle | Hi Danielle - Stress eating is definitely a thing. It impacts me as well. Your question reminds me to take the same actions as you are seeking here. When one experiences mental stress, the urge to replenish burnt up neurotransmitters is high because we need to feel good and happy. So we eat more and usually we eat carbs or sugar to get that fix fast. By reducing our stress or managing it, then we don't burn up our neurotransmitters as much thereby not seeking reward foods like carbs and sweets. I agree with your approach here and I'd add a couple more things to it. Stress Nutrients: Take 3 capsules with breakfast to support a healthy response to stress.* Instead of Serotonin Nutrients, I'd consider Multivitamin One MF. Take this with your breakfast as well ONLY if you are feeling tired, low mood and want to support healthy energy levels and a healthy mood.* If your mood and energy levels are at a healthy level, then do NOT take it. I find that at first, you take 1 capsule every morning for about a week. Then after that, you wake up and say - wow, I actually feel good. Then break that habit right there. Do not take the multivitamin. You already feel good so it's not possible to feel 'better' - instead you'll feel irritable and anxious. Upon waking, take 1/2 to 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenges. Bite it once, let it dissolve and then swallow. You'll see what it does - and pretty fast. It's awesome. During the day, sip on a serving of Optimal Electrolyte. Hydration is key. Both electrolytes and the glutathione support healthy mitochondria. Before dinner, take 2 capsules of Gallbladder Nutrients. It's essential that you have healthy bile production and bile flow in order to experience healthy weight loss.* Another tip: don't drink calories. Only drink water, herbal tea, electrolytes. Milk, alcohol, juice are very high calories and add on weight quickly. I'd also go for a 10 minute walk after meals. This simple little intervention really makes a big difference in your blood sugar levels. In health, |
Hi Dr.Lynch and team. I’m coming out of a stressful season in life and going through perimenopause. I wake up at 3am every morning and can’t get back to sleep, even though I’m very tired. My body just feel jacked up. I did have my cortisol tested and it was lower, but i know it fluctuates. Is this the best product to try or the Adrenal Cortex? Thank you very much. | Hi Jen - In the mornings, I'd take a combination of both Adrenal Cortex along with Stress Nutrients. This combination provides you healthy energy without being wired or overly stimulated.* I'd also support first thing in the morning with 1/2 to 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenge. Bite it a couple times, let it dissolve slowly then swallow. During the day, sip a glass or two of Optimal Electrolyte. I'd also look into progesterone creams on Amazon. Find one that has great reviews. Talk with your doctor about this as it may help you immensely. Apply the progesterone cream on your arm or inner leg before bed. In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, I'm just wondering if someone is on a low dose of an SSRI as well as bioidentical hormone replacement (menopause) if there would be any contraindications to taking this? Thanks so much! | Hi Brooke - You're good to go! In health, |
What genetic type should not take stress nutrients and what genetic type should take stress nutrients? i.e. slow COMT, slow PEMT, slow MAO, etc. Thanks a bunch. | Hi Rebecca - While this seems like a great question, it doesn't really matter what genetic type you are. What matters is how you are feeling. If you are not experiencing emotional stress, then you don't need this. If you are experiencing emotional stress, then supporting a healthy response to stress with Stress Nutrients is recommended.* Now, in terms of genetics, there are some people who are genetically vulnerable to emotional stressors than others. As you mention above, folks with these variations do tend to be more vulnerable to stressors:

Would you recommend this for periodic anxiety? I’m typically calm but stressful situations can spiral for me a little whether is public speaking, a doctors visit, or family drama. It can trigger flight of light for me a little with higher blood pressure/pulse/sweating. Basically I’m a poor responder to stress but feel great otherwise | Hi Jim - Absolutely. Stress Nutrients supports a healthy response to stressors.* Take in the mornings as needed. Now, if a stressor becomes significant, a bigger one than usual, then add in Lithium Orotate to support a healthy response to a big stressor.* I usually do well with Stress Nutrients alone. There are times when stress really can hit hard and then I reach for Lithium Orotate in addition to help support my healthy response to the stressors.* I'd get both to have on hand. One never knows what these situations occur and it's super handy being prepared. I'd also consider Optimal Magnesium before bed. In health, |
I just purchased this for my 17 y/o daughter. I heard that Ashwaghanda, which is in Stress Nutrients, causes lack of joy, lack of pleasure, inability to orgasm, etc. What do you know about this? | Hi Chris - Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb meaning it supports healthy balance.* Serotonin excess can cause those symptoms you are talking about - so 5-HTP, Inositol, etc. Ashwagandha is just fine. Stress Nutrients is very subtle - effective - yet subtle. In health, |
I purchased this for my body's poor stress response and low level anxiety, but within two days of starting this, my seasonal hives started going away. Could this be because of the stress nutrients? | Hi Hannah - That's nice :) I would say yes. Here's why: By supporting healthy stress levels, you are supporting healthy histamine and not stimulating mast cell activation. Well done! In health, |
I took one this morning and had a massive hot, red face flush which was thankfully calmed by a histamine nutrients capsule. I did take it on an empty stomach with an adrenal cortex so am thinking that was why? Try again tomorrow after breakfast? Thanks for any insight you can offer. | Hi Jennifer - Glad you were able to calm that down. That's not very fun. Stress Nutrients has ginger in it - and also zinc. I do recommend taking Stress Nutrients with food as the zinc and ginger may trigger heat or nausea. I'd try with breakfast for sure. If you're still reacting like this even with food, then you may be reacting to one of the herbs. In that case, you may need to stop using it. In health, |
Would this be beneficial for someone with a haplotype Slow COMT? Most of my gene mutations are nurtured for thanks to StratGene and Dirty Genes, but for those times when I am in extended stress states wondering if this would help or put too much pressure on COMT gene. | Hi Mike - A slow COMT type would definitely benefit from Stress Nutrients. Take in the morning on the days you feel you're needing support. Those days where you really need support, then consider adding Lithium Orotate. Be sure you are breathing through your nose - and not holding your breath during stressful moments. In health, |
Do I need to cycle this or should I take daily? I never really feel like my adrenal fatigue fully resolves. Just better and worse days but always nagging in the background… low level anxiety, nervousness, difficulty concentrating. | Hi ExPhysGirl - I'd consider Stress Nutrients daily. Next, I would read up on these supplements and ask any questions you have on their specific product pages: Dopamine Nutrients I suspect one, or a combination of two of them, will really support you in addition to the Stress Nutrients. In health, |
Hi! I have hypothyroidism and just recently purchased stress nutrients along with adrenal cortex. Can I take stress nutrients daily and take adrenal cortex if needed on days I sleep horribly or wake too frequently the night before? My goal is to ultimately help my adrenals and slowly be weaned off my levothyroxine. | Hi Heather - You said it very well. Stress Nutrients is taken daily in the morning with breakfast. Adrenal Cortex is taken on mornings where you wake up frequently, wake up tired or waking up to pee at night. Take with breakfast along with Stress Nutrients. You may also need Serotonin Nutrients 1 capsule before bed. Try the two adrenal supplements first before adding this in. I also recommend 1/2 lozenge of Glutathione Plus lozenge immediately upon waking up in the morning. And 1 serving of Optimal Electrolyte Unflavored - sipping this upon waking as well. In health, |
Hello Dr. Lynch. On the suggested use section, you’ve recommended taking Stress Nutrients in the morning. Is there a negative to taking a capsule in the evening? Thank you. | Hi Su Vitamins B5 may provide too much energy. That is why I recommend taking this only in the morning. To feel a sense of calm in the evening, consider taking 1 capsule of Phosphatidyl Serine and Optimal Magnesium. In health, |
Hi Dr. Ben - First, just want to say love your products, been using for years. My daughter is a sophomore in college and has social anxiety. Very high functioning - on the varsity crew time, sorority, clubs, etc., but this is always there and she said it's a constant, just varies in severity given the social situation. I've been trying to find the right supplements to help her feel more "even". Would Stress Nutrients be it? And with something else? Backstory - as a teen found out she had undiagnosed Lyme and developed OCD along with anxiety. Worked with a naturopath and also a therapist for biofeedback. OCD resolved but not social anxiety. | Hi Melissa - Congratulations with your daughter's success. Rowing is an amazing sport - brutally beautiful ;) Here are a few suggestions:
Let her know I used to row for the University of Washington Huskies back in the day. I was stroke seat of the 3rd Varsity boat. Our team was insanely stacked with olympians and world champions. Miss it :) In health, |
Why in the world is the serving size different for people who live in California? | Hi Cap Because of Prop 65 in California. It’s a pretty pointless law. In health, |
