Several of your products contain Kombo nut oil, is this a problem for those with tree nut allergies?Updated 6 months ago
Kombo nut oil is the starting material used to extract Cetyl myristoleate (CMO) a fatty acid ester which is a component of the inactive ingredient LipidProtect™, used in our liposomal formulations. Tree nuts are considered present in products containing Kombo nut oil; however, no proteins are present in the final product, so it does not require an allergen statement.
The FDA states that highly purified oils from nuts are not allergens since the proteins are what cause allergic responses, yet no standard is provided to define that. As an example, soy lecithin is labeled as soy, although soy derived lecithin does not contain the allergy causing proteins of soy. While it is very unlikely for this product to cause a Kombo nut protein allergy, it is important to be aware the product does contain a highly refined tree nut oil.
