NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) Dr. Lynch Q&AUpdated 3 hours ago

I thought nac was supposed to help reduce glutamate but I read in a previous question you said it might increase it. I’m looking for something to help ocd/ruminating thoughts and I read nac could be of benefit. Am I understanding this incorrectly? | Hi Trisha - Yes, NAC and glutathione both are known to support healthy glutamate levels when used at healthy amounts.* When NAC and glutathione are used in higher amounts, they both individually may increase glutamate to unhealthy levels and contribute to side effects. Thus, using either NAC or glutathione to support healthy glutamate levels can be beneficial but in the right amounts.* If you first notice improvement then as you continue using either of them and your thoughts return, then you may have tipped over to the excessive amounts and need to reduce the amount you are taking. I call this the Pulse Method Additionally, consider the following additional support:

What do you think of “augmented NAC?” It’s made in Italy, and appears to be much more potent than NAC, effective for long COVID, and for prion diseases. I’d love to hear some educated opinions on it. I’ve sent a link to an online interview between Dr John Campbell and Dr Tina Peers (from the UK) https://youtu.be/ZIdQAtt8ViA?si=bmPLyHx_oQxODrIL | Hi Nancy - I am not sure. I'm skeptical. From the website: "Thanks to special patented machines using the principles of quantum physics, we have found that it is possible to bring more order to the subatomic structure of the N-acetylcysteine (NAC) molecule, thereby optimizing ("augmenting") all the beneficial properties of NAC, in particular the degree of denaturation of the spike protein, which has consistently increased from an average of 12%-15% to 99.8%, as measured in the laboratory." The tests were done in vitro (petri dish) as well which is very different than human body. I'd say try one bottle vs another and see how you do. In health, |
Hey Doc! Interested in detoxing at the moment so I am exploring different things like you NAC. I have been seeing a lot about zeolites online for parasites and heavy metals detoxing. I'm not sure if this is all internet hype or if parasites are actually a concern. It is very hard to separate fact and fiction online these days. I trust your opinion on this sort of thing so I am curious what you think. How does zeolite compare to a supplement like this? Thanks! | Hi James - Hype is right. The internet is absolutely full of nonsense and hype to encourage impulse buying. The best way to detox is:

My wife recently started taking your NAC supplement (1/day) as I have been. She's still trying to confirm after trying to take in the evening or in the morning, but it appears to have been negatively impacting her sleep quality since it was the only recent addition. She has stopped for a few days but desires to evaluate further. Is this a likely effect and, if so, are there suggestions to address if it may be related? | Hi Christopher - Yes, sulfur can do interesting things to people so I do recommend she take it after a protein based breakfast and no later than after lunch. If her sleep is still off, then stop it for a few days and reevaluate. A couple reasons how NAC can negatively affect sleep:

wondering if there is a way that NAC may cause insomnia and anxiety? Also I was wondering why Mucuna pruriens Is not an ingredient in your dopamine nutrients product. Thank you for your help | Hi Lori - NAC is a high sulfur product. High sulfur may contribute to reactive cystine and sulfites which can trigger glutamate release and thus anxiousness and difficulty sleeping. Mucuna pruriens is not included in the Dopamine Nutrients because this herb is L-DOPA itself which should be regulated by a health professional. It must be used properly or there are serious consequences if not. In health, |
Is this safe for individuals with a sulfur allergy and a dirty MYHFR? Thank you! | Hi Stevi - Yes. You may do well with combining Molybdenum. Consider:

hello! i have been taking this as a pre-conception/fertility supplement (1 capsule/ day) but noticed that it gives me quite bad body odor. i understand that this amino acid contains sulfur, but does the fact that it makes me stinky all day (even if freshly showered) "tell" me something about how my body is processing the NAC or perhaps that i have a deficiency of something , etc? thank you for your help! | Hi Teal - You're correct. You're taking too much NAC. I'd stop the NAC and use other things to support healthy fertility - and, often not discussed, your partner should also be supporting his sperm health. Consider:

Hello! I’ve heard this could help with bronchitis? Every cold that I’ve had this year has quickly turned into a chest cold (some resulting in antibiotics) and I’m looking for support for my airways, so that I don’t have to go down that route again. Currently have a chest cold again and trying to make the rattles and phlegm in my chest heal naturally! Cant seem to get over these chest infections. Any suggestions? Already taking vitamin a,d, c, zinc, elderberry.Thank you! | Hi CM - Yep. Good call. NAC supports healthy thinning of mucous. Consider:

I’m trying to battle long covid. I do also have mthfr. I’m on tons of supplements… I have found nad + infusions help, but keep regressing… can you suggest other things? | Hi Sara - I have some thoughts which are likely not being addressed well. Consider:
Keep me posted. You should notice benefit within 24 hours. In health, |
Hey Dr. Lynch I am allergic to the prescription sulfa and I was just wondering since this has sulfur in it would I be allergic to the sulfur in Nac as well? | Hi Jessica - You're good. Sulfa is different than sulfur. That said, sulfur can cause issues in folks who are deficient in molybdenum. Consider:

Hi Dr Lynch! I currently take your lithium oratate and it’s generally helped slow down thoughts and calm my mind. However, it doesn’t quite take away the obsessive thoughts I can have about certain things (eg something going wrong at work or someone annoying me). I had OCD as a child and have remnants of it. I’ve read that NAC can be helpful with obsessive thoughts. I’m looking for something to help ‘unhook’ my thoughts from the same recurring troubling thing. Would NAC help? Thanks! | Hi Jas - Good to hear about the lithium orotate supporting you ;) Consider:

I have tried taking both liposomal glutathione and glutathione plus, but don't feel so good after taking them. When I take liposomal glutathione I get a headache even with a small dose, and several days between attempts. Glutahtione plus is better, but I also don't feel so good after taking it. Is Nac something that could work instead? I have homozygous CTH, homozygous SOD2 and heterozygoes GSTM3 and NAT2. My MTRR A66G is Homozygous and I struggle with fatigue and other symptoms which I suspect come from oxidative stress. | Hi MB - Mmm...both Liposomal Glutathione and Glutathione Plus capsules have the same amount of glutathione - 100mg. There are different reasons why you may not be feeling so good after taking them:
You could try NAC and see how you go. You could also reduce the glutathione dosage:

My two sons (3 and 6 years old) have both experienced a croupy cough/wheezing asthma attacks when they get upper respiratory viruses. Our pediatrician gave us a nebulizer with albuterol to use as needed, but I'd much prefer to address the underlying cause. Would NAC be beneficial for them or help prevent this from happening? If so, can you please help me with dosage and frequency for them? Thanks! | Hi S.S. - I hear you. Good call. ;) Consider:
This is comprehensive support for them. You should notice significant changes with them. In health, |
I just had an anxious episode, loads of mucus and a horrible sleep and have realised it's when I added in Taurine on top of my NAC....sulfites!! Now I know - I have re-read that section in Dirty Genes, but I am keen to avoid any other supplements that contain sulfites - are there any others I need to avoid (one article even said some B vitamins!?) Thank you so much. | Hi Maria - Just to clarify, taurine and NAC are sulfur-based amino acids but do not necessarily contain sulfites. Other sulfur-based nutrients include methionine and glutathione. However, it is not a good long-term strategy to avoid sulfur-containing nutrients since they are important for many metabolic processes. You may want to consider taking Molybdenum to help support the processing of sulfur and sulfites instead. Regards, |
Thank you for answering my question about low homocysteine. I’ve been dealing with infertility and am ttc and have been taking your NAC twice a day per my doctor. Should I also stop the NAC in case that is lowering homocysteine? I am very fatigued recently and wondering why. I eat a lot of meat and when I tested my methionine was high / normal. Is the glutathione safe when ttc? Thanks so much! | Hi Ivy - That's a good call. NAC is good but it's not the best for a variety of reasons. Instead, I would use glutathione directly. Consider:
OR
You may be fatigued due to low glutathione and too much protein intake. Consider eating no less than 1 gram of protein per 2 pounds of body weight and definitely do not exceed 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. I'd also add in Acetyl L Carnitine and take one capsule upon waking in the morning to support ammonia metabolism and healthy egg development.* One can have high ammonia from eating protein. This is very important for fertility, too. In health, |
Follow up with your suggestion on MTHFR 677T and Comt slow and low homocysteine of 3.9 with mood disorders. Will the multivitamin mf work the same as the b complex mf? I just ordered some and arrived a few days ago but did order the B Complex MF as well. Thanks for replying and did forward all of this to our naturopathic doctor as we have been working with a naturopathic doctor for awhile. Also, will lithium orotate work at all? Also, I believe he could have a histamine issue since he has bags under his eyes and spring time is horrible for him but didn’t connect the dots. I only saw Dr Lynch talking about low homocysteine being bad and that got me looking again at the blood report. His heavy metals levels are good. | Hi Carey - It's one or the other for the Multivitamin One MF or the B Complex MF. You definitely do NOT want to take both of these on the same day. What you can do is take the multivitamin one day and the B complex the following day and no multivitamin - alternating them. I'd also skip taking either of them if you wake up feeling good. Lithium Orotate is fantastic for what it is designed to do. If you're looking to support a healthy response to stress and have a healthy onset of sleep in the evening, then Lithium Orotate may be useful.* Histamine Nutrients before bed is key for him if he needs to support a healthy response to spring time season.* In health, |
Thank you so much for all the great information. I started taking both to help with fatty liver. My labs were a tiny bit high, which was crazy to me. I know menopause does a number to us, but I’m trying my best! Always have been in shape and active. Weight training, walking, Pilates, eat healthy. Hate when labs get out of wack. My cholesterol is up too. Would NAC or glutathione be better, or both? Kim | Hi Kim - I'd consider Liver Nutrients as it contains the NAC plus other supportive herbs and nutrients for a healthy liver.* In addition, I'd add in 1 capsule of Optimal PC to support a healthy liver and healthy fat content in the liver.* Consider taking the 1 capsule after dinner about 4 nights a week. For some, the Optimal PC may cause a low mood. If this is the case for you, consider Serotonin Nutrients at night before bed. Studies show that low serotonin is associated with low mood when people consume nutrients which support healthy acetylcholine levels.* This combination is better than the NAC or Glutathione alone. In health, |
My husband has had a cough and congestion for 3 weeks and now my son has it for the last 7 days. Dr. Lynch suggested doubling up on NAC for all of us. My son and I take it 2x/day but my husband only remembers to take it once daily. Recently my husband has been getting what looks like some kind of bite around his wrist and ankle areas and for a while we thought it was mosquito bites but I was just now wondering if he’s having an allergic reaction to the NAC because it’s very odd. | Hi Jolynn - Those bites don't sound like a response to too much NAC. It may be but I'm not familiar with this presentation. You may stop the NAC for him and switch to Liposomal Glutathione Plus and have him take 1 serving 2-3 times a day. Additionally, consider using 1 to 2 servings a day of Immune Intensive to support a healthy immune response.* This is absolutely key for all of you right now. Make sure you take the Immune Intensive after a meal. The high amounts of zinc in there can contribute to nausea so if taking after a meal, then those side effects don't occur. In health, |
Will Nac help with slow Comt ++? My son has wicked temper tantrums and he has a low homocysteine of 3.9? He also has one copy of MTHFR 677t? Thanks for responding.. | Hi Carey - NAC does not directly help with a slow COMT. It will support glutathione production however which indirectly may help. NAC can also lower glutamate levels which can contribute to overexcitation and irritability.* So NAC may still be helpful for your son. His low homocysteine is a bit concerning. This may indicate that he is not producing enough SAM which will make his COMT slow regardless of SNPs. And certainly contribute to temper tantrums and difficulty handling stressful situations. It may also mean that his CBS enzyme function is currently fast. and that his body is prioritizing detoxification over methylation functions. I'd suggest:
I also highly recommend that you work with a healthcare practitioner. There may be other things going on for him such as gut dysbiosis which can dysregulate his dopamine levels. All the best :). Regards, |
Just came down with "a" virus and really need a recovery protocol...Have both your NAC and L-glutathione plus, plus many others but don't know what to prioritize. Can my body utilize NAC with compromized glutathionization genes, no GSTM copies, etc? Thank you! Also if there's something on this in the membership let me know as I am a member. | Hi Mary - Well done on having a membership. There's some great educational material there, some old and some new. I don't believe there's anything there (yet) related to viral infections though. NAC can be beneficial if the infection is affecting your lungs and if you experience a lot of mucous. Your body may still be able to utilize NAC even with compromised glutathione genes. In addition I suggest:
All the best with your recovery :). Regards, |
I’ve been taking NAC and glutathione plus daily for a few months now. About a month ago, I started getting very itchy skin, upper arms closer to the arm pit area. I first thought it was due to menopause symptoms, bit recently had my labs done again and I’m in optimal range. HRT is working well. I saw your recent post and I think it might be the NAC. Going to take a break from both for a few days, what should I add back first? | Hi Kim - It's not a bad idea to take a break from supplements. Sometimes you can end up taking too much. Dr. Lynch talks about this bell curve in taking supplements in his book Dirty Genes. You may also not need both as they both support healthy glutathione levels. But, if you want to reintroduce both supplements back in I suggest adding the Glutathione Plus first. Then wait a week or so before adding in NAC and see how you go. Regards, |
I have read that those with Mast Cell Activation Sydrome this can increase histamine levels, what is your take on this? | Hi B - There do seem to be studies that suggest this. However, there are also studies that show NAC can stimulate H2S production which then stimulates Nrf2. Nrf2 suppresses inflammation and reduces mast cell activation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8558634/ In fact, 600mg of NAC 2 - 3 times a day is suggested to oppose mast cell degranulation in this paper. Regards, |
Hi, there! I am currently almost 20 weeks pregnant and have been taking NAC and the Optimal Prenatal since I found out. Initially I was taking the NAC because some studies have shown it helps prevent miscarriages, but recently I have read that it might not be good during pregnancy. Should I keep taking it or just stop for now? For reference, this is a healthy, low-risk pregnancy with no underlying conditions. | Hi Natalie - Congratulations on your pregnancy. NAC is considered safe during pregnancy. As you pointed out there are studies that show benefits in preventing miscarriages, most likely due to its antioxidant action. Whether you continue taking it or not may be more of a personal decision or something to discuss with your healthcare practitioner. But there's no obvious reason why you can't take it. All the best :). Regards, |
Is it still helpful if I gave it to my teenager and my husband if they already have a cough with mucus? My husband has had it for 3 weeks now. My son just started his cough but all the OTC meds I’m giving him doesn’t seem to be working. Also, I take NAC daily and I am also taking Ranolazine 2x/day. , Atorvastatin and Aspirin daily. Is that okay to take NAC daily? Trying to be preventative and not get sick because we will be traveling a lot soon. Appreciate your time. | Hi Jolynn - Consider increasing the amount from 1 capsule to 2 capsules a few times a day. NAC is needed in more potent amounts during times like these. I’d also add in Immune Intensive once to twice daily after food. Upon waking up, consider 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus lozenge. Definitely take these when traveling, too. It’s a staple. Hydration is key as well. Consider 1-3 servings a day of Optimal Electrolyte. These recommendations will help you all out immensely. In health, |
I already take Acetyl-L-Carnitine can I also take NAC with it or is that the same thing since both have acetyl in them? | Hi Lindsay - They are apples and oranges. You can take both at the same time if you like. Make sure you drink a full glass of filtered water with these. In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, My Dr. says if I use NAC, my body will stop making glutathione, because I am supplementing with something that produces glutathione, does the body get lazy, and stop making glutathione if it recognizes I am getting it from a supplement? thank you Lori | Hi Lori - If I buy you an apple pie, and you have apples at home, unless you use those apples for something else, they will go to waste. It's about conservation of resources. That said, your doctor is wrong. NAC is not glutathione. NAC is NAC. NAC contains cysteine which is the rate limiting ingredient needed to make glutathione. If you take NAC, your body uses the NAC to make glutathione. If you take Glutathione Plus lozenges, then your body will stop making glutathione until you stop taking the Glutathione Plus lozenges. Is that bad? No. It's conservation of resources. If you need glutathione, you should supplement with Glutathione Plus lozenges or Liposomal Glutathione. You should not take NAC. Making glutathione from NAC still have MANY steps and many enzymes to function properly. By taking glutathione directly, you're going to have results immediately. In health, |
Hello, I have been taking two of these per day as a part of a mold detox protocol from my doctor. They caused such an increase in urination that I ended up in urgent care from bladder pain and irritation. As soon as I stopped taking it the issue resolved. Is this a detox reaction? Do you think glutathione would suit me better instead? Thank you! | Hi Sara - NAC is a mucolytic so it may have reduced the lining of your bladder a bit causing irritation. Glutathione is much less of a mucolytic that NAC. I do agree in your case that Glutathione Plus Lozenges would be better suited. I'd also add in Calcium D Glucarate which supports overall healthy liver detoxification and take 1 capsule after dinner.* If you need to support a healthy bladder lining, consider taking 3 capsules of Gut Nutrients before bed and 3 capsules upon rising in the morning.* Doing this for 1-2 weeks would be supportive. In health, |
I have been taking NAC for a few weeks and recently added Optimal Liposomal Glutathione to my regimen, starting yesterday morning. I took three of your magnesium and NAC before bed. Although I initially felt sleepy, about 30 minutes later, I experienced heart palpitations and an stress-wired feeling and couldn’t sleep all night. Could you please advise if I might be doing something incorrectly, or do you believe these symptoms could be unrelated? If it helps I also asked you a question about CIRS and actino bacteria about a week ago. I’ve been out of the environment for a week now. I bought everything you suggested but haven’t started those yet. Thank you for your guidance. | Hi Dawn - Glutathione can do that. There is a sweet spot to glutathione supplementation. If one has too low of glutathione levels, glutamate levels can be elevated. If one has too high of glutathione levels, glutamate levels can be elevated. NAC and glutathione both can possibly increase sulfite levels which can cause those same side effects. If one has a microbiome that produces a lot of sulfur, then sulfites may be present. Does your breath, armpits, urine or stool or gas smell more like eggs or sulfur? If so, this is definitely the issue. I recommend reducing the amount of NAC and Glutathione you are taking for now. Additionally, slow down on the sulfur-containing foods like eggs, cruciferous veggies and fermented foods. To support healthy levels of sulfites, consider:
I was researching to see if actinobacteria increase sulfites and didn't find anything on that - but I did find that: "Sulfite preservatives, at concentrations regarded as safe by the FDA, alter the relative abundance and richness of the microbiota found in saliva, and decrease the number of viable cells, within 10 minutes of exposure." Thus, also avoid packaged foods which contain sulfites - commonly dried fruits. In health, |
Hello, I am a customer from China. I really like and appreciate your products. I have done a lot of research on glutathione and have two questions. Could you please help me answer them? Thank you very much. These studies point out that both supplementing with NAC and directly supplementing with glutathione cannot increase glutathione levels in cells, and both seem to have scientific support. Here are the corresponding resources: https://www.glutathionereporter.com/n-acetylcysteine-nac-cannot-increase-cellular-glutathione-levels/ https://www.glutathionereporter.com/glutathione-supplementation-cannot-increase-cellular-glutathione-levels/ I would love to hear your opinions and thoughts on this. Thank you very much in advance for your guidance and reply. Thank you again. | Hi Cha - It is not easy to measure intracellular glutathione as it has to be measured from the red blood cell. The issue is once the glutathione is exposed to oxygen in the lab, it's immediately oxidized and makes it difficult to calculate how much glutathione is actually present - and functionally available. There is 'Reduced Glutathione' which is ready to perform and do its job. Then there is 'Oxidized Glutathione' which is essentially damaged glutathione, potentially harmful to the body and must be recycled back into reduced glutathione by the enzyme, glutathione reductase. In terms of NAC producing glutathione, I agree completely that NAC, by itself, cannot increase intracellular glutathione levels or even extracellular glutathione. NAC provides cysteine which is the main compound needed to make glutathione - but it's not the only one. The body needs magnesium, B6, glycine, glutamate, ATP and a few genes to be fully functional. If any of these elements are missing, then glutathione is not produced. In terms of glutathione, we use the world's best form of glutathione, called Emothion From one of their research trials: "Actually, restoring GSH levels is a challenging and desirable effect only achievable with the use of high doses of oral GSH because of its unfavorable biochemical and pharmacokinetic characteristics. In this study, we showed that a single oral dose administration of a GSH prodrug, SAG, is able to significantly increase the rate and the extent of GSH absorption. SAG is more stable than GSH, can be directly taken up by the cells and requires only cytoplasmic thioesterase for its hydrolysis to GSH with no need to be broken down to aminoacids that are, then, combined to synthetize GSH. This is a very important and useful in nutritional approach aiming to increase antioxidant defense and in all these cases where GSH catabolism and re-synthesis could be markedly affected, as in the case of viral infections or GSD, when the supplementation with NAC is less efficacious." Can taking oral glutathione or NAC increase intracellular glutathione levels?
That said, glutathione is needed in the plasma and extracellularly as well to support healthy levels of oxidative stress. The benefits of taking NAC and glutathione are demonstrated over and over by millions of people supplementing and experiencing positive outcomes. In health, |
Would this help if I have CIRS and I am exposed to high levels of actino bacteria? Or would you recommend something else? | Hi Dawn - There are better options. Consider:
On Amazon, I'd get a bottle of Berberine. Take this with dinner to support healthy levels of actinobacteria. Berberine is very harmful to actinobacteria. In health, |
I just purchased the optimal liposomal glutathione and NAC at the recommendation of another practitioner that I am working with. I happened to return to the site looking for some information on additional supplements and found this question section. The most recent question from Marcia, I felt like I could have written that question myself. I am 8 months postpartum with my third baby (all 3 under 6 yrs old) and I am currently nursing as well. I have struggled with eczema, psoriasis, acne and keratosis pilaris throughout my life, all of which get better during pregnancy and then return in full force postpartum. Add to it the normal stresses of lack of sleep and constantly going with three young kiddos and it's just a set up. I was so excited to see the supplement recommendations you provided for her and wondered if the same might apply in my case. Also, would you recommend to also hold off on the NAC and could I use the liposomal glutathione or do you recommend the lozenges. I am thinking of trying them for my kiddos but have already purchased the other two supplements for myself and just did not want to let anything be wasted. Thank you so much! | Hi TD - I'm glad you found my response helpful. I recall her question and my response. I do recommend the same for you. I really like the Glutathione Plus Lozenges the most - over the Liposomal Glutathione. They seem to just work better, fast and more effectively. You can use the Glutathione Plus Lozenges for your little ones as well. Give them 1/4 to 1/2 a lozenge - no more than that. You can give them 1/4 a couple times a day but no more than that because they may get a headache from too much glutathione. You can also use the Kids Multivitamin Chewable MF for them - and I'd start with 1/2 a chewable a few mornings a week for them. Keep me posted. Congratulations on your three! In health, |
Hi! I have been struggling with chronic eczema for 7 years now. I have had a few instances of it clearing for several months but then it returns again. It completely cleared when I was pregnant but returned postpartum. I have done a lot of trail and error and when I detox and cleanse my liver, I tend to see positive results in my eczema. I worked with a naturopath and did all the allergy testing and nothing came back. However, from my own trial and error, I feel that my body does not process fats optimally and possibly leads to a pro-inflammatory gut. After reading through dirty genes, I would guess my GST/ GPX is “dirty”. I am trying to determine what protocol to start. I was looking at the probiotic and NAC or Glutathione. Should I take NAC or Glutathione or both? I am also breastfeeding still and hoping to get pregnant again soon. | Hi Marcia The fact that you improved when you were pregnant says a lot. While pregnant, your placenta makes a lot of DAO enzyme which reduces histamine in your gut and overall body. I recommend the following:
Additionally:
These are all safe to take while breastfeeding. All are safe to take during pregnancy except Gallbladder Nutrients. I would not take that one while pregnant but you need it now. I'd do this for a couple months to nourish your liver and gallbladder before getting pregnant again. For your partner, have him consider Optimal Man. He can take 2 capsules with breakfast and only take another 2 capsules with lunch IF he is tired or needs additional support. I do very well with just 2 capsules in the morning. In health, |
Hi Dr Lynch, Is it ok to have NAC while breastfeeding? Caught a little cold and have some mucus I'd like to clear (baby had it first). How long do I take it? Thank you! | Hi Lauren - Yep! I'd also add in Glutathione Plus Lozenges and Immune Intensive (after some food) to support your immune system. These are all great to use. You use them while you need the extra healthy immune support and stop them when you're feeling great again.* To support baby's brain and healthy breastmilk flow and healthy breastmilk, consider taking a capsule of Optimal PC any time of day with any meal.* This is awesome for baby and you. In health, |
Hello! I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and starting radiation treatments for one month soon. Would you recommend this product or Glutathione? Thank you. I’ve been following you for years and appreciate all your information. I am hetero for MtHfr and low COMT. | Hi Colleen - I recommend reading The Metabolic Approach to Cancer When it comes to cancer, it's typically an oxidative treatment. This means that high doses of vitamin C are used and glutathione is wiped out. It has to be monitored and cycled. I believe reading Dr. Winters' book will help guide you. I also recommend ordering the Estrogen Fractionation test or the DUTCH Test so you can see how your estrogens are doing. There are good estrogens and bad ones. We want to make sure the bad ones are low and good ones good. A slow COMT may be more susceptible to more harmful estrogens so need to get those identified and balanced. Positive mindset! ;) Meditation, nose breathing In health, |
Can this be given to a 2 and 5yr old? If not, which product would be comparable? | Hi Myra - This is too hard for them to swallow. You could open the capsule and pour 1/2 capsule into a bite of organic applesauce. It will be pretty sour so may need to have a few bites to get it down. Or you could mix it in a bit of organic apple juice -say 1 ounce or so. I'd try it first before offering it to your kids. You can also give them 1/4 to 1/2 a lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenges. This is easier to give and they will enjoy it - and experience a benefit. In health, |
Hi, My wife is Pregnant and she has really bad allergies. Sneezing and dry cough. I found out NAC is not safe for pregnancy. What can i give her instead? Thanks | Hi Gary - Good man for helping out your wife. :) NAC is too drying for pregnancy - agreed to not use that. I recommend she use Histamine Nutrients - take 2 capsules any time of day or night. She should also take 1 capsule of ProBiota HistaminX after dinner. She may also do well with taking 1/2 lozenge or 1 full lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenges in the morning upon waking. She can take another 1/2 a lozenge later in the day if needed. She should notice benefit within an hour of taking these. She can take them all at the same time if needed. Make sure her prenatal has good folate in it - and not folic acid. Look into our Prenatal Essentials MF Congratulations to you both! In health, |
Can 2 capsules be taken a day, similar to other brands like Organika where the instructions are to take 2 500mg capsules per day. | Hi Sasha - Absolutely. Take as needed. The key is being mindful of how you are feeling and how your body is responding. NAC is a mucolytic meaning it functions by breaking up mucous. So if you have a wet cough and want to support healthy lungs, then taking more makes sense. If you find that after a week or two you are experiencing nose bleeds, dry eyes, constipation and foul smelling sulfur stools, then you're taking too much. In health, |
Hi , need some advice. Would u recommend Nac and gluthatione to be used together or can i use one over the other ? Wanting it for me and my daughter who is on the spectrum | Hi Diandra - Glutathione Lozenge Plus is the best option. It tastes great, is comprehensive, low potency so well tolerated, can take a few times a day if needed. NAC is great to support healthy lungs or support overall a healthy liver.* You wouldn't use NAC daily as it's too much sulfur - only as needed. The Glutathione Plus Lozenge can be used daily at 1/2 to 1 lozenge usually taken first thing in the morning upon waking - or after a chemical exposure if needing to support a healthy response to that.* In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch! Lately, my daughter has been experiencing a dry cough and we're not sure if it's due to seasonal allergies or if she's getting sick. As a precaution, I've given her some NAC, Histamine Nutrients, and Immune Intensive, but I'm looking for more ways to improve her immune system. She's been doing well with Methyl B12 with L-Methylfolate and Optimal Glutathione Plus Lozenges (quarterly lozenge), but I'm still worried about her health, especially since she had pneumonia back in October. Do you have any advice on how to improve her immune system? She is only 18 years old and participates in track and cross, which can be quite demanding on the body.. Thank you in advance for your help! | Hi Mila - You have her on a great program looks like. Well done. I'd add and adjust a few things: Glutathione Plus Lozenge: take 1/2 lozenge upon waking. And if she feels she needs more later in the day, take another 1/2 especially after practice or a competition. Pre-Workout Nutrients: this is a new product. In a liter water bottle, she can mix 1/2 serving of Optimal Electrolyte Unflavored with 1/2 serving of the Pre-Workout Nutrients. Have her sip 1/2 of this 30 minutes before her workouts or competitions. Then she can sip periodically during training and events. I'd stop the Methyl B12 with L-Methylfolate and replace that with Multivitamin One with breakfast. Take this in the mornings she feels tired and needs additional support of healthy energy, focus and mood. ProBiota HistaminX: take 1 capsule after dinner Joint Nutrients: take 1 capsule before bed (coming out very soon) Buy a humidifier from Amazon or your local store. Make sure it's programmed for a certain humidity percent control. Set it to 50% humidity. Make sure she's eating 1 gram of protein per pound of her body weight spread throughout the day. She needs to have protein especially with breakfast and post-workouts. I recommend Goat Whey from Naked. She can add this to her smoothies: In health, |
I NEED HELP! PLEASE! Our sweet daughter 11 years old (weight 77 pounds) was first diagnosed with Blastocystis Hominis four years ago. Malabsorption markers have gone up, and SIBO round two, Shortly after her diagnosis she became intolerant of Gluten, dairy, and developed IBS , histamine overload, she had insomnia, joint pain, pale stools /undigested, constipation, insulin resistance, Urgent urination during sickness, But most concerning to me, her mother, are these INTERNAL VIBRATIONS which she feels constantly in her torso, its been going on for well over two years now most recently spreading to her fingers? What is so amazing to me is that the moment I give her GLUTATHIONE PLUS , only 1/2 tspn, it calms the vibration feeling down for a short amount of time? (she thinks it tastes great, maybe her body is in much need for it? I have poured over Page 159 in DIRTY GENES concerning Cysteine and the importance of that in order to help her body absorb glutathione but I am stuck? do I need to give her NAC ALSO? I filled out her laundry list, MTHFR (2) DAO(2) MAOA (slow) (2) MAOA(fast) (2) NOS3 (1) PEMT (1) I strive very hard to give her a very clean diet, healthy happy life, lots of sleep, no exercise before bed. We have sent off many Genova stool samples it has come back red flagged Omega imbalance, (RED 9) Oxidative stress, Maldigestion Yellow (6) Dysbiosis RED (8), Infection, Yellow (5). Her chromosome C677T is + (arrow down) - and V158M +(arrow down) - (still learning!) Symptoms this month. Nystagmus eyes shuddering side to side. FATIGUE, always tired. Undigested stools, ( that's if I don't give her digestion Intensive, I noticed better stools, better color (bile) when I do. SIBO Malabsorption. Sensitivity to light. Very tired legs all day,/ leg jerks at night while sleeping. Her ferritin levels are at 18? (Lots of other Iron labs low too?) Exhaustion from exercise. Maybe Anemia, due to malabsorption, more labs to be done? Of course I very concerned about kidneys, gallbladder, liver, B deficiencies, Iron deficiency, potassium calcium, adrenals and the internal vibration, (I have had many heavy metal sets done too.) WHERE DO I START doctor I am so overwhelmed. What do I treat first? I know BILE IS HUGE for ridding SIBO, but I feel malabsorption has to be dealt with first? I own so many amazing supplements from Seeking Health, I agree with you on pulsing, especially with the weight she is. ' She tells me that she always feel better when she takes 1/2 of B12 1000, ( her labs have come back normal range?) She also has a stuffy nose daily, could be spring pollen? That is also a new symptom? Thank you for taking the time, I want her living an optimal life, full of energy, biking swimming, bouncing, participating in sports, camping, and just feeling like she can keep up with her sweet cousins! All the best! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do, I so looking forward to hearing any advice concerning our sweet girl. | Hi Elizabeth - Your sweet daughter needs the assistance of a naturopathic physician or functional medicine doctor. Please ask my team for a list of health professionals to work with. Please do work with a health professional with her. You will see great strides and much faster. For some support:
Look for mold in your home, her room and her school and your cars. Once she gets strong enough, start using a sauna. But only after she gets strong enough. Please phone, chat or email my team now also for our list of health professionals. ;) You're daughter will be in great hands. In health, |
My son is 10 yrs old and 55lbs and has horrible allergies, and asthma . He was prescribed Flonase and albuterol which of course I’m not giving him. He eats extremely well no refined sugars, gluten free and minimal dairy - only grassfed; He takes quercetin, nettle, and bromelien daily. Also zinc, and a probiotic. Sometimes elderberry if he’s feeling run down. I wanted to start giving NAC since I know it’s reputable for lung health, mucous membranes (which he is always stuffy or has sinus issues) and I so desperately want to help him naturally. I was told by a functional health doc to be cautious with dosing for NAC and other herbal supplements with children because they are growing and there is a fine line between giving enough and giving too much. Is 500 mg NAC too much for him? Thanks !! | Hi Tiffany - If your son has difficulty breathing, I do highly recommend him using his prescribed medications. They may be required. I'd consider getting the Histamine Workbook and working through it: Then, consider these:
I would not use NAC. Try without first. I would also:
