Removed Shellfish from the "does not contain" list (fall 2019)

This product has never contained shellfish, nor does it now. This product contains shellac, which is derived from a secretion from the lac beetle. Beetles are genetically similar to shellfish as they both form the phylum Arthropoda. Because of this similarity, a false positive comes up when the product is tested for shellfish allergen. Some research suggests that people who are allergic to shellfish could also be sensitive to beetles and other bugs. Industry trends point to not including shellfish in the "does not contain" section of bug- containing products, with some companies going as far as putting a statement on products saying, "Those with shellfish allergies may be sensitive to allergic to X(beetle)." According to our supplier, twenty years of experience with the product has not yielded a single complaint of shellfish sensitivity or allergy. With this in mind, we will not be including a statement on the other product, but to protect Seeking Health in the case of a possible reaction, we will remove shellfish from the "does not contain" section of the labeling

Other ingredients have changed to just microcrystalline cellulose and ascorbyl palmitate inside of a vegetarian capsule - no more microencapsulated beads. The bottle is now desiccant-lined to further protect the ingredients from moisture. (August 2020)

Improved formula to remove the "other ingredients" and change to ones that are cleaner and of higher quality

Vitamin C is sourced from ascorbyl palmitate, not pure ascorbic acid.  (January 2021)

The ascorbyl palmitate ats as both a flow agent/preservative and nutritional component, as it is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C.

Suggested use updated to:  As needed, anytime, take 1 capsule before eating or drinking. Vitamin C moved to other ingredients:Vitamin C moved in supplement facts panel to reflect the fact that this ingredient is not an active ingredient, but rather a flow agent.

Supplement facts change: (2024)

HDU amount may claim 30,000 HDU and some packaging may still say 10,000 HDU. The formulation has not changed at all.  Better test methods have recently been developed for the DAO, which is notoriously difficult to test.  This method is showing that the product actually has had higher levels all along so we are just updating the claim that we make.
