Hi, I hope all is well. I was wondering, can I take this whilst pregnant? I literally just purchased it and found out basically at the same time. If not, please let me know what I can take. Just some background, I do have Graves’ disease., alopecia universalis. I was previously taking another brand suggested by my functional nutritionist, but upon doing research, I found yours to be superior. My active B12 levels are: 83.7 pmol/l, my serum B12 is Serum vitamin B12: 1096 ng/L. My folate is: 18.9 nmol/l I’m supplementing vitamin D and K2 already. Thanks a lot! | You may use Homocysteine Nutrients while pregnant, yes. You'd take 1 capsule after a protein based breakfast. Having healthy levels of homocysteine during pregnancy is very important. You may want to use our prenatal instead as it's very supportive and has sufficient K2 and D3 levels so you wouldn't need a separate supplement. We have a couple prenatals to choose from. Our most comprehensive is Optimal Prenatal. You would use 4 capsules after breakfast and 4 after lunch. I don't think you'd need Homocysteine Nutrients in addition to Optimal Prenatal. I do also suggest Glutathione Plus Lozenge: 1/2 to 1 lozenge upon waking to support healthy homocysteine levels.* In health, |
Hi Dr, I’ve recently tested my Homocysteine levels and mine came back as 14.3. I’ve been on 80mg of telmisartan for a year for my blood pressure and it has not reduced on average below 145/98 even with an increase from 40mg to 80mg. I also have a bicuspid aortic heart valve that’s considered in healthy range by my cardiologist. I’ve had stress tests and echos and lots of bloodwork to no avail for a root cause. I started looking around and researching and got the test for Homocysteine. At this point, I just wanted to know what you may recommend for me to take. My cardiologist claims there’s no evidence that reducing Homocysteine could lower blood pressure but I have a feeling he’s wrong and only learned about conventional treatments that have yet to work for me. I want to live a long life. I also am taking 20mg of lexapro and 15mg of buspirone for mild anxiety. I’m torn between taking the b12/folate combo here on the site or if I should take the combo supplement here that includes tmg and other supplements for Homocysteine. What are your thoughts? | High homocysteine is absolutely associated with high blood pressure. There are a few reasons why as high homocysteine:
There are also nutrients that support healthy homocysteine levels:
A deficiency in any of these are associated with high blood pressure and high homocysteine. Here's research on the MTHFR variant, vitamin B2 deficiency and high blood pressure: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9541256/ Consider:
Mild anxiety is often associated with lithium deficiency or low serotonin - and the two are connected. If you want to work with your doctor and get off the medications, then you may support healthy serotonin levels with Lithium Orotate OR Serotonin Nutrients.* You would one or the other as needed. You would not take both at the same time. You also cannot take either Lithium Orotate or Serotonin Nutrients in combination with the medications. The combination of medications you are taking may be too strong. I'd talk with your doctor about the combination. In health, |
Hi Dr. Lynch, I recently did a homocysteine blood test and it was 9.6, I understand that that’s probably not ideal and that could mean I am not methylating properly? I suspect I have MTHFR gene mutation c677t( my son tested positive for this gene from both side sides) I feel like I am somewhat methyl sensitive. Do you think this product would be good for me or should I focus on the vitamins and your prenatal vitamin methyl free? And focus on a diet rich in folate? | A 9.6 is not that bad - it's a touch high. You want to have around 6-7 umol/L ideally. I have this article for you about homocysteine: I recently read an article about the effectiveness of folinic acid and it's relationship to healthy homocysteine levels. Since the level is not that elevated, I would instead simply take a multivitamin as you suggested. Prenatal Essentials MF is a good option. Consider taking 1 capsule after a protein breakfast and 1 after lunch if you feel you need additional support that day. Some days you may find you do well with 1 capsule in the morning and other days you may find you need 2 in the morning - and some days you may need 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Additionally, consider more foundational support:

Hello Dr Lynch, following your advice i dropped my homocysteine and went off all BP meds. Lately I have been increasing my Glutathione intake ans noticed a significant increase in my BP. It seems as if too much glutathione intake negatively influences homocysteine Levels. As you always say the Sweet Spot seems to be the best strategy. What’s your thought, is this possible? If so, I do understand why you always say to take very Little. | That's awesome - congratulations! Glutathione has a sweet spot yes. Here's why glutathione may be increasing your homocysteine levels:
For now, stop using glutathione. Consider:

Hi Ben My Homocysteine is 17.4umol/L. I know!! Pretty high!! I have done my best to clean up all my genes: eat well, sleep well, exercise, use all naturals products (personal and cleaning), sauna, don't smoke and don't drink, With two variants of the MTHFR gene: C677T Homozygous and A1298C Wild Type, please recommend a Homocysteine Nutrients dose and anything else you think may help get these levels down. | Homocysteine of 17.4 is elevated but it's not insanely high. That is easily supported. This article is very informative on how to address healthy homocysteine levels. In terms of supplements, consider:

Hello. I'm eating this product steadily, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin together in a total of 1,000mcg, and I'm curious about the contents of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, respectively. | You're correct that we use a combination of both of these vitamin B12's. It's a proprietary formulation so I do not give that information out. I can tell you it's a healthy amount of both. Other companies are actively 'stealing' my formulations so I have to be careful unfortunately. I used to share openly and then later I found the exact same products on the market - and still to this day companies are stealing my formulations. I hope you're getting the results you are looking for. If not, ask another question and share what you're experiencing and what you want to achieve and I'll provide you some insights. In health, |
I have been taking Hydroxo B 12 with Folinic Acid for years. I have high blood pressure and only controlled by a significant amount of meds. If I switch to Homocysteine Nutrients will it help with my blood pressure? My homocysteine levels are slowly creeping up as well. Or do I add this one with the hydroxo B12? | Great question. Hi! I am 52 yrs old with MTHFR Compbound, BHMT-08,CBS upregulated, MAOA heterozygous. I wonder what i should focus on? I know nothing about it all but i read somewhere that BHMT should be adressed first? Been having lots of symptoms and my homocysteine is at 10 and is rising since last 3 months.. I inject with b12 every third weeks. But think I need it more often… Kan you please recommend anything? I am also in premenopause. My functional dr don’t really know how to help so they just pile up the supplements for me and I just feel worse… I really need guidance through this jungle! Thank you | Focusing on SNPs in isolation without knowing lab results or having symptoms to go off on, I cannot provide good recommendations. I do recommend working with ElizmaLambert.com and stopping working with the functional doctor if they just pile on supplements. Homocysteine of 10 isn't that terrible but definitely worth knowing. I don't want to add on another supplement without knowing what you're currently taking and what symptoms you're experiencing - if any. Elizma can help you. In health, |
Hello, We recently got bloodwork done for my father. He is 69, 180 lbs. His homocysteine levels came to high and HbA1c. Homocysteine levels are at 21 and HbA1c at 10. c reactive protin at, cardiac at 4.50. his chloesterol levels are LDL 60, triglycerides 86 and HDL at 38. He had stent placed in 2018 and been on aspirin with statin and bisoprolol. I was skeptical with Chloesterol levels so I went ahead and did further testing for particle size with NMR labcorp testing and found that his HDL-P(total) A,02 = 27.5 and LDL size A,02 = 20.4, LP-IR at 72. His vitamin D levels at 21. fasting glucose at 195. his energy levels down. The doctor got him at metformin 500 mg 2 times a day, aspirin 81 mg and statin 5 mg. We changed his diet and cut most of the fruits to berries, salads low carb and good amount of fat diet. he is vegetarian and about 80-100g protein. with 3-4 days exercise regimen. I was thinking to add the following supplements to his regimen by seeking health - Homocysteine nutrients COq10 (cuz of statin) Vitamin D quercitin Optimal Magnesium Anything else that would benefit him with elevated Homocysteine and CRP, cardiac and high HbA1c? | I like what you're thinking. Consider:
This is a quite comprehensive plan for him and he should notice improvements within a couple days. I'd retest him in two months and reevaluate those labs. In health, |
Hello, i have a four year old child who has methylation problems, i would like to know if can give him homocysteine nutrients. | I'd look at the Kids Chewable Multivitamin. This has methyl donors in it that are in good amounts for a kid. Consider:

My husband had bloodwork done about 3 months ago, Vit B12 was 425mg. He also has ocular migraines periodically. His func. med doc recommend Vit b12 1000mg and trying 400mg ribolfavin. Follow up bloodwork showed homocysteine was 13.7. His b12 increased to 525mg. I discovered you researching honocysteine and I put him on your Homocysteine nutrient once a day about 4 weeks ago and stopped the Vit b12 1000 mg since that was in your product. A repeat homocysteine about 4 weeks later showed it had decreased to 12.7 . Also we found out my husband is heterozygous for C6771 and heterozygous for A1298C His Func med doc said to take 2 of your Homocysteine nutrient tablets a day and to continue the Riboflavin 400mg for help with ocular migraines he has. ( he also takes electrolytes, Mg L- Threonate, and Drop Acid for possible gout like issues in joints, but most recent Uric Acid level was normal range ) My questions are- - Is it okay to too much to take the 2Homocysteine nutrient tablets a day with the 400mg Riboflavin daily? - Is there any association between elevated homocysteine and ocular migraines? - Would glutathione lozenges be a good idea to add to his regimen? - Do people with this MTFHR heterozygous situation benefit from take the Homocysteine Nutrient supplement forever or is this something you can decrease or stop at any point? I do not want him to end up with a low homocysteine. - I bought your Dirty gene book and will read this. We are both exercising regularly now and avoiding processed food and seed oils, eating high protein and wholefood carbs. We use whey protein and recently added Creatine. Is there anything else you recommend ? Thank you! | Glad he got some proactive blood work done and looks like he has a good doctor. Well done. I like your approach and thinking as that's mine as well. Consider:
There is absolutely as association between:
The above recommendations are very supportive for him. Make sure he does not overdo the protein as protein can increase homocysteine. Consider 1 gram of protein per 2 lbs of body weight and he can increase that a bit but if you see his homocysteine being stubborn, then I'd adjust down to what I suggest here. Also - consider:
You want his homocysteine to be around 6-8 umol/L The glutathione is a missing component to his program - and the other foundational nutrients. Keep me posted on how he is doing! In health, |
Do other synthetic b vitamins (so not only folic acid) block the methylation cycle? (Niacin, B6,..) and what’s the best way to detox from these synthetic b vitamins? | It's not really about blocking the methylation cycle as it is slowing it down.

Hi Ben, For the last 6 months I’ve developed Histamine intolerance, and thank god I found your products. Before that I did my methylation test. I have the AA🔻🔻 MTHFR, had been taking Dr Carolyn Dean ReAline B vits off and on . Now my homocysteine is 3. How do I increase my homocysteine please. Thank you jane | I'm happy to hear you're histamine intolerance seems to be doing better. For healthy homocysteine levels, consider: In health, |
I asked to have my homocysteine checked by my neurologist. I have a mutation on both of the common MTHFR genes so expected it to be high as I have recently been having migraines daily. It an actually came back LOW at 4.2 and now I'm more confused about what could help! | I have this article for you: This goes to show everyone that despite having MTHFR variations it's possible to have low homocysteine - not high. This is why I shout all the time that people should not treat the SNP - treat the person. Some things to consider:
Keep me posted. In health, |
Debating whether this is necessary for me to take as it is one that I did not yet order. I had a DNA report completed in February of this year, although I've known since 2013 that I had a dirty MTHFR but had trouble locating the medical records to verify the SNP/variation. I had a PE in 2011 that at the time the doctors could only attribute to supplemental estrogen/progesterone aka birth control, I was a healthy and fit 26 year old who had never smoked a day in her life... a GYN actually recommended testing so that's where I found the MTHFR thing. Haven't really followed a methylation protocol since, and until your book never truly understood all of the facets of MTHFR. I am now 40 and trying to optimize my methylation pathways. I've always struggled with low mood/affect and issues with anxiety but it is much better in my now 40s compared to my 20s, I do struggle with fatigue and low energy at times but I am a 5x per week Crossfit athlete and maintain my fitness in that domain. The most recent complete blood work I've had drawn was Nov. 2023 and homocysteine presented at 8.1 umol/L... which according to the general ranges and lab values is normal, but I remember from your book you said this was actually not normal. According to my DNA report (DNA Company) I have two MTHFR values rs 1801131 (cc) and rs 1801133 (cc) and an MTR rs 1805087 (ag) and an MTRR rs 1801394 (ag). Can you help with cracking the code in terms of whether or not homocysteine nutrients might be helpful? I realize it is part of the larger picture, but I'de appreciate any help. Thanks again, your book (audiobook) is fantastic and life changing. | I'm happy to hear you're on top of things. A PE has gotta be scary. A Dirty MTHFR is something to be mindful of but a Dirty NOS3 is more significant. With a homocysteine of 8 umol/L, I would say let's focus on other things. Here's some things to consider especially given you're an athlete which is a great activity but one that raises homocysteine and increases oxidative stress - both need to be addressed. Consider:
This supports you overall vs just homocysteine. I'm looking forward to hearing how much better you're feeling ;) In health, |
Hi, we recently found out my 11 year old daughter has the MTHFR Heterozygous gene variant. Her homocysteine was 11, Folate > 20 ng/ml , B12 - 1004 pg/ml. She is taking 1 cap of Mitocore daily as recommended by her pediatrician, but I was thinking about switching her to Homocysteine Nutrients to include betaine. What would be an appropriate dose for her? I am also giving her glutathione, but unsure of the dose she should be getting. I heard from your podcast that liposomal glutathione is better, so planning to switch to that as well. What dose would you recommend for glutathione? Her liver enzymes were also elevated, so she is on milk thistle to support that. As far as her symptoms go, she has had a constant headache everyday for the past 3 months, she has also developed muscle pain in her back. She has struggled with falling asleep in the past, but that has seemed to get better over the past month. We are working with a neuro-optometrist and a pediatrician to figure out the cause of her headaches, and she has had some improvement in the severity, but I want to get her homocysteine down incase that is contributing. Thank you! | I would like to know why her homocysteine is high for her age. Need to dig into reasons. I recommend working with ElizmaLambert.com Some things to consider:
Let's try this and see how she does. I suspect great things. In health, |
Hi- I was told I have the MTHFR gene mutation and I've struggled with depression ever since I can remember. My doctor told me to take L-methylfolate in addition to my anti-depressant. I'm not sure which product of yours to start with? Also, B12 vitamins have caused acne breakouts in the past so I don't know which one to try. | I'd start with the capsule of Methylfolate It's without B12 and only one nutrient so you'll know if it's helping you or not. This uses a very good form of methylfolate known as Quatrefolic from Italy. In health, |
Hello: I have MTHFR Heterozygous and I bought the Homocysteine Nutrients + the Methyl B12. How do I know when to take them as it looks like they are a bit similar. Do I alternate them by taking one of them 3 days a week and then the other 4 days? Thank You. Maria Billis | It more depends on your symptoms and lab test findings - not the SNP itself of MTHFR. One does not dose methylfolate due to have a SNP in the MTHFR enzyme. They supplement with these to support healthy homocysteine levels.* You want to feel good when taking these. I don't think you need to take both. It's one or the other. Consider:

Homocysteine is 11. I do workout heavy 6 days a week - weight lifting. Cardio is moderate 125BPM 30-45 minutes a day stationary bike or treadmill 5-6 days a week. Last week, I took 1 homocysteine nutrient each day for two days. Then had debilitating anxiety for three days. Should I just space this out going forward one every few days? Or open the capsule and start even slower? I also bought your hydration powder (take one scoop a day) and pre workout powders (it’s coming in the mail). I purchased the glutathione lozenges and they arrived today. At this point I’m confused what to take. | I hear you. Consider:
The Pre-Workout Nutrients is also very supportive of a healthy homocysteine level in a gentle manner. The Glutathione Plus is as well and the Fish Oil. Keep me posted. This should do the trick - along with really support your gains and your workout and recovery. In health, |
I took one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday. Have had anxiety since. Any idea why? Any idea how to calm whatever firestorm these have started? I feel exhausted beyond belief and anxious and agitated. It's awful. Compound heterozygous for MTHFR and cbs Thank you | Yes - methylated nutrients can do this. Having MTHFR does not mean you need to take methylfolate. Is your homocysteine > 9 umol/L? If so, then you can support your homocysteine by using 1 capsule every 2 to 3 days. The best way to mitigate the side effects is by taking Niacin. This will help tremendously. Additionally, you may help mitigate the side effects by using Histamine Nutrients. Take 2 capsules any time you need. In health, |
I arrived at your website after being informed by Dr. Lynch. I’m Spanish, and here in Spain, this topic is progressing very slowly. I am homozygous for MTHFR, with symptoms like anxiety, fatigue, some anemia, and digestive problems. I’ve changed my diet — no gluten, no alcohol, no tobacco. I want to supplement with your products and I’m going to place an order, but I’m not sure exactly what to order. In my last blood test, my homocysteine level was 16. I hope you can help me, because in Spain they treat you like you’re crazy if you talk about this mutation. thank you so so so much | Well done on your dietary and lifestyle changes :). These will go a long way in supporting your genes. A homocysteine of 16 is pretty high in my opinion. I definitely suggest Homocysteine Nutrients for you. Take 1 capsule per day, but not within 5 hours of bedtime as it may interfere with sleep. Retest your homocysteine levels about 3 months after starting Homocysteine Nutrients. For your anxiety, fatigue, and anemia you may also consider Optimal Iron at 1 capsule per day. Retest iron levels 3 months after starting this supplement. For digestion: Digestive Enzymes: 1 capsule with meals. All the best! Elizma Lambert (ElizmaLambert.com) |
I think I have a dirty Nos3 gene and this was recommended to me due to my high blood pressure, however I am sensitive to methylated supplements. I was able to cure my eczema with the histamine digest and probiota, no idea if that is correlated with my hypertension. I had preeclampsia with my son and still dealing with hypertension, trying to get it down before baby #2, what do you recommend? | Great to hear that Histamine Digest and ProBiota HistaminX have helped with your eczema :). When NOS3 is dirty the body may compensate by making more histamine to help with blood pressure regulation. So yes, there could be a correlation between your past eczema and hypertension. And high homocysteine levels can significantly dirty NOS3.* Here are a few options to consider:
Is there something else that could be making your NOS3 dirty such as inflammation, infection, or an iron deficiency? If so, address these. Sauna and exercise are also great tools to stimulate nitric oxide production. Don't exercise next to roads with heavy traffic and pollution though. Regards, |
Thank you so much for the reply and information provided below. I do take 100 mg of COQ10 mg daily since I take statins, is that enough?. I forgot to include that in the list of supplements in my question below. I have a follow up question to your recommendation. My multi provides 10 mg of B6. If I add the P-5-P supplement which has 25 mg of B6, will it be too much for me to take 35 mg of B6 total per day with the amount from the multi? I also wanted to confirm that the 500 mg of TMG and 100 mg of Glutathione should be taken every other day instead of daily, not sure if 100 mg of glutathione daily is safe, or if it's too much. And as an fyi, my multi has 10 mg of B2 (riboflavin), is that enough to lower homocysteine? Thanks again! | Wonderful! Keep taking the CoQ10 :). A total of 35 mg of vitamin B6 is not too much. It sounds like your multi may be low-dose. If your multi contains no more than 500 mcg folate then it may be OK to try the Homocysteine Nutrients instead. In that case, you would not need the extra TMG, B12, or P-5-P as they are already included. Take 1 capsule per day. You would also get an extra 25 mg of riboflavin. 10 mg of riboflavin is not that much. However, if you stick with just the P-5-P then TMG can be taken every other day. Glutathione 100 mg daily is safe, but I would suggest every other day. You would rather want your body to convert your homocysteine into glutathione using P-5-P. Hope this helps :) Regards, |
Hello, Dr. Lynch. My homo-cysteine tested 13.8 about 7 months ago. I took TMG 500 MG every day for 6 months and reduced it to 1 every other day a few weeks ago. I also took L-glutathione 100 MG every day for the past 6 months and reduced it to 100 MG every other day about a month ago. I take 400 mg of phosphatidyl choline daily (I have the gene for low PC levels, and have been having issues with memory), and 1000 mcg of B12 every other day. Thus, my B12 levels decreased from 700 seven months ago to 400 in my labs done this week. And my homocysteine only decreased from 13.8 to 13 since the protocol mentioned above for the past 7 months. I am 53, pre-diabetic, overweight, and hypertensive. I take statins for elevated cholesterol, and I also take thyroid and blood pressure meds. I have the MTHFR C677T mutation. Folate levels are normal per labs. I exercise on my elliptical machine 40-60 minutes at least 5 days a week to help with pre-diabetes and weight. I also take 1 TBS of organic raw apple cider vinegar before lunch and dinner to help with my glucose and cholesterol levels (it has worked, I was diabetic at one point, but have been able to keep glucose lower). Do you have any advice on how to lower my homocysteine and any advice on what supplements to take or stop? Should I go back to taking the 100 mg of l-glutathione daily instead of every other day and take TMG 500 mg every day again, or is that not enough? Not sure whether to take your homo cysteine nutrients instead, but I was concerned about getting too much methylfolate if I take that in addition to my multi which I need to keep my zinc levels in check as well as other levels that were low before. And if there's an alternative to the electrolytes and pre-workout nutrients that is less costly, please let me know. Thank you in advance! Meds: atenoloL 50 mg, levothyroxine 150 mcg , lisinopriL 10 mg Daily supplements: Magnesium glycinate 400 mg, Ashwagandha 700 mg, Korean Red Ginseng Extract 500 mg, multi, L-glutathione 100 mg, D3/K2 5000 IUs (levels drop outside range without it), 1 Omega 3, Phosphatadyl choline 400 mg Every other day supplements: B12 1000 mcg, TMG 500 mg | I'm helping to answer some of the questions we are receiving. I would typically suggest Homocysteine Nutrients because it also contains riboflavin and vitamin B6 which it seems was not part of your original protocol. However, I hear you about the concern of taking too much folate if you are already taking a multivitamin. In this case, I may suggest P-5-P (Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate) instead to help lower homocysteine levels. Take 1 capsule per day. Re-test your homocysteine levels 3+ months after starting the P-5-P to make sure your readings are heading in the right direction. If you are taking statins you may want to consider taking CoQ10 as well since statins inhibit the production of this very important antioxidant. CoQ10 helps with energy production, heart health, and brain health. Taking your other supplements every other day is fine. It's more likely that P-5-P may be the missing link that you need to shift your levels. Let us know how you go :) Regards, |
Thank you for the information below. I have a follow up question. I am currently taking magnesium at night, taurine at lunch, and l-carnitine in the morning. Is it possible to take too much magnesium, taurine or l-carnitine by adding pre-workout and electrolytes. Would I be better suited to taking multivitamin vs. homocysteine nutrients due to inflammation? How do I know if I am not tolerating homocysteine nutrients? Thank you!!!! I am planning to order all the recommendations this week, | You know you're taking too much magnesium if you have loose stools. You know you're not tolerating Homocysteine Nutrients if you are experiencing irritability, headaches or difficulty sleeping. I find that multivitamins can be more aggravating until one gets the foundations in order a bit beforehand. On the days you are using the Pre-Workout and electrolytes, then I would not take the additional taurine, magnesium and carnitine. Good points. In health, |
Hi! I have high homocysteine levels (14) and am currently dealing with inflammation from mold toxicity (under treatment), along with a sluggish liver and gallbladder. Is it appropriate for me to take B vitamins in this situation? I read one of your previous articles, and it mentioned avoiding B vitamins when inflamed, which left me confused. I also have genetic variations in MTHFR, GST/GXT, PEMT, and NOS3. Additionally, I’ve experienced significant weight gain and have tried various methods to lose it without success. Any thoughts? Should I consider a different type of B vitamin? How often should I take it? Thanks. | Good questions. Consider:

Hi Dr Lynch Homocysteine is above 18, and B6 B12 high as well. I have been scrubbing for last two weeks and following protocol. I took one homocysteine capsule with food this morning and feel a little more jittery and anxious than normal. Should I have only taken the folate MTHFR-5 capsule/supplemt instead of the homocysteine with added vitamin support because of the B vitamins higher in my blood? I have the histamine digest and histamine probiotic, but maybe I needed the histamine nutrients instead? Also, would Vit A and B1 low make a difference? Thank you | The B12 and folate may be 'stuck' in your methylation cycle for various reasons. One big reason is low glutathione. Consider:

Hello! I have MTHFR and my B12 and Folate levels on recent lab work are almost non existent. I've been sensitive to B vitamins before so my plan is to start with B Complex MF. My question is this...my homocysteine level showed high on the labs. Would the Homocysteine Nutrients be ok to add with the B Complex MF or would that be too much? Thanks so much for your help! Jennifer | I think that would be too much. I would focus on Homocysteine Nutrients. Consider:

Hi My dad got low homocysteine ( 4 )for 2 years and struggling with pain in the body, especially nervs and muscle. He also have develop varicos veins. Even with carnivore diet, high protein for 1 year homocysteine was still a 4. Would this supplement help or would it be a bad call? Why would he homocysteine be low? I am one month away from 40 years old:) I have felt like poop for far too long...I'm struggling with ADHD anxiety like crazy that has stopped me from living life in some areas, I eat keto, exercise and don't drink alcohol...but I struggle with losing weight and inflammation/pain in my legs for years(my friend said I have a thick lower body) so I use compression socks by 3pm for swelling and aches: I have considered cosmetic surgery even for my legs! I'm exhausted all the time, but compulsive and obsessive over every detail and organization in my life! It's exhausting! I have two kids, my son is on the autism sensory high spectrum with skin issues head to toe, and precocious puberty (10-5'5" 140lbs 10.5 men shoe and almost needing to shave!) my daughter-12, has horrible heart wrenching learning disability and anxiety, adhd and dyslexia and anxiety, acne came around 10 and even on her chest and back: poor baby! Both have large stork bite birth marks on their necks, I have read this is a MTHFR GENE sign?? They are both the sweetest and I have struggled with naturopath telling me they're good after metal and parasite cleansing! No they're not! Finally I met with integrative Dr that spent over 2 hours with my listening to just my story and daily struggles...ordered so many tests I had to do blood in 2 visits! I'm getting some tests still back daily after a week... but heterozygous for both C and A gene, b12 is normal, b6 is 39.8 high but b1 is low and homocysteine is 17.8! Do I stay away from b vitamins and start with this homocysteine nutrients? Also should I be taking the MTHFR SUPPLEMENT you have? Thank you! | It can be hard being a mum. Especially if you have a child who's on the spectrum and another child with learning difficulties. No one understands unless they can trade places with you for a day. You have to take care of yourself so you can take care of your kids. Mums tend to put themselves last, but they really should put themselves first. You're following a healthy lifestyle so that's an important start. It sounds like you found a healthcare practitioner that listens to you. That's awesome! It also sounds like there are some genetic components contributing to your and your children's struggles. I see high serum B6 levels a lot, so I don't know how significant they are really. But homocysteine is definitely high. This will affect how methyltransferase enzymes work in breaking down histamine (HNMT), estrogen (COMT), stress hormones (COMT), making healthy bile (PEMT), energy (PNMT, GAMT), and fixing cells (PEMT). I'll make some suggestions, but follow the instructions of your healthcare practitioner. They know more about you and your children than I do. I highly suggest the Homocysteine Nutrients at 1 capsule a day. It already contains L-Methylfolate. Vitamin B1 being low may indicate some sulfite issues or gut dysbiosis. Sulfites result in excessive dumping of vitamin B1 and eventual deficiencies. It's super important in healthy mitochondrial function. Brain Nutrients contain the TPP form of vitamin B1 which I found to often be superior to other forms of B1. I recommend this supplement as well. Make sure their iron levels are checked. You need iron to make neurotransmitters involved in learning. Please let us know how you go. Regards, |
My dr prescribed enlyte/enbrace-HR. An FDA vitamin for high homocysteine (10) and borderline hbp. I think homocysteine is high from working out weight lifting everyday. Plus compound heterozygous for MTHFR and CBS and COMT. It's $209! For 30 days of it. So I'm trying to find something comparable to share with her. She is very MTHFR literate. Does your homocysteine vitamin compare? I've been taking your pre workout for a month now. | Enlyte/EnBrace-HR seems to be a high-dose folate supplement when I look it up. It does not seem to contain any other nutrients involved in maintaining healthy homocysteine levels such as vitamin B2, B6, B12, and TMG. Vitamin B6 is very important to lower homocysteine as it supports the CBS enzyme that converts homocysteine into other compounds such as glutathione. Folate on its own will not lower homocysteine if there are deficiencies in these other B vitamins. In my opinion, Homocysteine Nutrients offers a much more comprehensive formula that addresses homocysteine levels from all different angles.* Weightlifting in itself won't increase homocysteine, but intense exercise can deplete B vitamins which can then affect homocysteine levels. Hope this helps :). Regards, |
Hi Dr Lynch. Thank you for your response earlier to my question about the labelling on this product. I'm sorry to ask again just for complete clarification . So b6 FROM p5p would be equivalent to magnesium FROM magnesium glycinate? b6=magnesium p5p=magnesium glycinate b6 would be the element So am I right in thinking this product contains 15mg B6 from 23mg P5P? Not 10mg b6 from 15mg p5p (since weight of b6 is 66% the weight of p5p) Thanks John | I confused you with the magnesium example. Ignore the magnesium. With the Homocysteine Nutrients, you are getting 15 mg of B6 in the form of P5P. Vitamin B6 as P5P is 67% so yes we add more. We add enough ingredient to make it so the final amount is 15 mg of P5P. Additionally, we also add another 10% overage in there to allow for full label claim in 2 years time. The dosage pertains to what is inside the ( xx ) - not outside the ( x). So when we say Vitamin B6 (as P5P) = 15 mg, we mean there is 15 mg of P5P This is all done using our formulations calculated on our Excel templates. In health, |
Hi there. I am interested in this product of your but have a couple of questions. https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/homocysteine-nutrients -What % of the B12 in the product is methylcobalamin and what % is adenosylcobalamin? -The labels says it contains 'Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxal 5 phosphate) 15mg'. Is this 15mg of Vitamin B6 or 15mg of pyridoxal 5 phosphate? Vitamin B6 is and P5P are not the same thing. P5P contains B6, it is about 66% B6. So for example, 100mg of P5P will contain 66mg of vitamin B6. So does this contain 15mg of P5P (which would mean about 10mg of P5P) or 15mg of Vitamin B6 (which would come from 23mg of P5P? More is not necessarily better, but I would like to how much is contained if possible? Thanks John | The B12 is essentially an 80/20 split between methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. You're right to question labels. Many companies are sneaky with them. Here's how labels work:
For example:
Magnesium is about 20% active ingredient. In our magnesium claims, we are always claiming the elemental amount - no games. If we say 100 mg of magnesium, there is 100 mg of actual magnesium and the rest of the ingredient is not claimed All of Seeking Health products claim elemental amounts - you know exactly what you are getting in ( xxx ) and the amounts. In health, |
Hello Dr Lynch. I’d like some advice please. I am a vegetarian and have been for 35 years, also eat very little eggs milk and cheese so bordering on vegan. I am compound hetrozegous for MTHFR A and C type. I recently got my homocysteine checked and it was 22, doctor put me on a supplement that didn’t work as just had levels Re checked after 3 months and I’m only at 20! I am guessing my levels are raised due to my diet and Mthfr. I also checked my COMT 158M and VDR Taq and both of these are. + - so what I would really like advice with is what supplements would be best for me. Would I need methylated vitamins? Would this above product be a good start or is there something else you’d recommend? Thanks in advance | I'd definitely add Homocysteine Nutrients in. 100%. Vegans and vegetarians do tend to have higher homocysteine levels than omnivores. Here's a plan to consider:
Recheck your homocysteine in a month. In health, |
Hi Dr.Lynch, Im currently a 39 year old male and i found out that i had the double mthfr mutation C677t when I was 33 when I had a small ischemic stroke. Unsure as to why the stroke happened but that's when they found I had a variant. When that happened my homocysteine was at 10.5 and my folate and b12 and vit were low. My neurologist recommended I take methylated supplements to get it below 8. So I did and I got my level down to below 5 with in the first two years taking a methal folate plus from one elevated .Now since then my levels have been creeping up to the 6-7 range in 2023 so I switched the supplement I was taking to a different brand (liquid dropper triquetra 5-mthf) thinking that would help. I just had a test done yesterday and my level is at 10.8 Aside from my homocysteine levels being low all else is in good range including b12 folate and vit d. I became a vegetarian about 10 years ago and am worried it also might have something to do with this. I am open to anything and am not opposed to changing my diet to get this under control. I also work in a lot of bad environments for work. My question is what supplements would you suggest I take to get my homocysteine levels under control again and keep my folate and b12 good aswell. When I had the stroke my b12 and folate were pretty low aswell. I did just order your glutathione liquid yesterday hoping that would help. That was before I discovered this awesome question section you have here. Thankyou so much for any recommendations! I look forward to reading your book aswell as this all fascinates me. | I'm glad that you found out you have a significant MTHFR C677T homozygous mutation. That is very important information for you. A few things here that are important to know:
For supplementation, consider this full body supportive combination:
That's solid. If you want additional methylfolate to support your homocysteine, and you may need it, I'd consider:
DO NOT take too much methylfolate as you will get side effects. You want to feel great - not worse. You're looking for healthy energy, mood and focus and cognition. Once you achieve that, wait until you don't to take more. If you take too much methylfolate, you'll experience irritability, joint pain, insomnia, headaches or migraines. If you're exercising, at the gym or need support for your work if it's physical, consider using Pre-Workout Nutrients and drink 1/2 to 1 serving before exercise - or before your workday. The ingredients also support healthy homocysteine levels as exercise increases homocysteine. In health, |
My mother's homocysteine level was 15. She currently takes the following supplements (all from Seeking Health, except for Hawthorn): Homocysteine Nutrients - 1 capsule, lunch Optimal Electrolytes - 1 serving upon waking up Gallbladder Nutrients - 2 capsules, lunch and dinner Digestive Enzymes - 1 capsule, breakfast, lunch, and dinner CoQ10 - 1 capsule, breakfast Hawthorn - 1/4 tsp, breakfast Is there anything else she can do to support her health and manage high homocysteine levels? She was diagnosed with mold toxicity (currently being treated), low blood flow in the heart, high cholesterol and Hashimoto's. She experiences cold hands and feet, fatigue, and slow recall. She is not overweight. She had a high IQ and feels she has lost a lot of recall and memory. She has normal to low blood pressure, so I'm concerned about anything that might lower it too much. | That's a pretty good support plan you have in place but I see a few holes. Consider:
Additionally:
In health, |
Hi Dr Lynch - recently had blood test. Homocysteine at 14. I also have Hashimotos, endometriosis/clotty periods, heterozygous MTHFR mutation. Thinking HN is needed (not sure how to know if I have methyl sensitivity though?) But what else? I have Optimal Glutathione as well for the assumed liver stagnation. In the process of reading Dirty Genes. | You're on the right track. Consider:
This should help considerably. In health, |
I am currently taking homocysteine nutrients and I do know I have the MTHFR issue, but I saw on the instagram post that this mutation may cause digestive issues and I am definitely having those. Oily floating stool and acid reflux. So do I need to add something different in addition to the homocystex in order to remedy this? I really just want my life back and of course not digesting is having a terrible effect on my energy levels. I am also in menopause if that changes anything. Thank you! | The information on social media regarding MTHFR is full of nonsense. MTHFR does not contribute to 'digestive issues' directly. If MTHFR was directly linked to digestive issues, then Homocysteine Nutrients would have resolved the issue. Good news is we can support you. Consider:
This should help significantly with healthy digestion.* If still experiencing acid reflux 1 week after adding in the above, consider adding in Histamine Digest and take with meals to support healthy histamine levels.* High histamine is associated with acid reflux - but so is a congested gallbladder. Thus, I'd like you to try the above support without adding in Histamine Digest. In health, |
First, thank you for all you do to educate the public! I have learned so much from your book, histamine workbook, social media, and I just joined your education classes. Next, my question is long and I’m not sure where to begin. So, I’ll begin that I am compound heterozygous for the 2 MTHFR variants. I’m not sure if I have cleaned these genes but am feeling like maybe not fully except I’m stumped on where to turn next. At my last blood draw, my homocysteine was a 6.15 (yay!), my b12 was 903 and folate was high at greater than 20, and my MMA was 81 (low). I was taking homocysteineX (my homocysteine was elevated prior to this at a 13) and the optimal prenatal MF at the time. (As I am breastfeeding and I’m thinking methyls make me anxious). I was also taking beef liver capsules at the time but have since stopped taking those bc my iron was high (it has since gone down). First, I’m wondering what a low MMA means? Is it just that my b12 is high or are my cells not utilizing something properly? Is taking a prenatal and homocysteine nutrients too much? Second, my rbc during that time was 3.90 (low), my MCV was 102.1, and my MCH was 33.1 so slightly high. I’m wondering how this is all related, or if it relates to the low MMA. I’m trying to figure out what support I need to help this (maybe my NOS3 enzyme needs support?). I get a tingly feeling in my feet when I first stand in the morning- then it goes away. My hands and feet are often cold as well. I have vertical ridges in my nails, geographic tongue (gallbladder nutrients has helped with this), the eye doctor said my eye looked malnourished (I’m breastfeeding and have since started taking 1/2 a lozenge of glutothione in the am which I think is helping), I have low or no libido, currently taking vitex but hormones look ok in bloodwork (except I know there’s debate there with hormones and bloodwork), my period is clotty, and I have anxiety that peeks and falls during my cycle I’m starting to think of just anxiety in general. Just want to feel better and optimal. Last, after knowing all of that, I would like to try to get pregnant again. I want to make sure my methylation is working properly and my body is nourished appropriately. I should add that I’m 40 with no other known health concerns (although I’m feeling like I should start to feel concerned lol). I try to do gentle exercises throughout the week like walking or Pilates or weight lifting (nothing crazy here). I just want to be optimal before trying again. I do not eat gluten and am thinking of cutting dairy again but didn’t know if I needed the nutrients. I have 3 beautiful kids, one miscarriage, and my last son was a homebirth and has a speech delay. Otherwise, all healthy (albeit two tongue ties?). I want to make sure I don’t have too much methylfolate rolling around inside but enough to support myself, breastfeeding and pregnancy. Side note: my husband is taking 1/2 lozenge of glutothione in the am, optimal electrolytes, and optimal man throughout the day. Thank you for taking the time to read this! I really appreciate all you do for people, and I’m slowly growing my toolbox to help myself and my family! | Well done on healthy homocysteine levels! Low MMA: that simply means that you're not producing that much MMA and that you have sufficient adenosylcobalamin on board (the specific form of B12 that breaks down methylmalonic acid (MMA) A high B12 or folate is in comparison to the general public. Since you're taking supplements, these levels will show up as 'high'. I would pause using Homocysteine Nutrients now that your homocysteine is where you want it. It is too much taking the Homocysteine Nutrients and Optimal Prenatal MF now that your homocysteine is great. High MCV and High MCH is related to low B12 and low folate - and low RBC can be related to that as well. Tingling in the feet upon standing from laying down tells me you may have reduced blood circulation. Consider:

Hi Dr. Lynch, I'm working through your book and have downloaded my report from your site. I'm trying to ascertain which supplements I need for the MTHFR C677T rs1801133 (+/+, AA) variants. My homocysteine is very high, so I'm definitely buying the HN - but, I'm wondering if I can also take the B complex since it seems to overlap a bit. I appreciate your time and work so much! Thank you! | I like your thinking, Let's mix it up a little bit.
This multifaceted approach is more effective than just pushing a bunch of B vitamins on homocysteine. Retest your homocysteine in 1 month - fasted and in the morning. I recommend also not eating a high protein meal for dinner. Watch your protein intake - do not exceed 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight - and should be around 1 gram of protein per 2 pounds of body weight. Exercising intensively also increases homocysteine. If you are exercising hard, then consider taking Pre-Workout Nutrients prior to working out. The ingredients there really support healthy homocysteine levels along with exercise performance and recovery.* In health, |
Our teen son's homocysteine tested elevated 3 months ago at 12.7. He has a slow COMT, Autism, MTHFR C667T, a fast MAO-A, and methyl sensitivity; so we couldn't give him your HN supplement. Instead, we have been giving him (1) of your Multi MF and (1) of your glutathione lozenge (upon waking) everyday and 1/2 of your Hydroxo B12 (500 mcg) with folinic acid (400 mcg) lozenge but only three times per week along with your digestive enzyme with dinner every night to help him digest protein since you mentioned it can increase homocysteine at night. We did give him TMG (500 mg) for the first month of the 3 months, but we stopped since we were concerned it could affect him due to the slow COMT and methyl sensitivity. He has also been taking a vitamin C supplement that has some phosphatadylcholine daily. We just restested his homocysteine 3 months after this protocol, and thankfully it decreased from 12.7 to 8.8! Could you have please advise on the following? 1. Whether to decrease the glutathione lozenge to half per day, keep him on 1 daily, or switch to one every other day long term. 2. Whether to stop or continue the additional 1/2 lozenge of the hydro B12/folinic lozenge every other day. His folate RBC and B12 plasma levels were normal before adding this. 3. Whether to stop or continue the choline with vitamin C (not sure if choline is good for him daily-methyl sensitive/slow COMT). The Multi MF does not have any C. 4. Whether to continue your digestive enzyme with dinner every night long term to help him digest protein, to stop it, or do it just occasionally. 5. Whether ok to continue the Multi MF daily indefinitely. We are concerned with his homocysteine increasing again, so we don't know what to continue or discontinue to ensure levels stay at a good range. | Well done! I'd consider maintaining everything you are doing - with these tweaks:
Add in Optimal Electrolyte. He can sip 1/2 a scoop in a glass of filtered water a couple times a day. Many prefer the Orange or Berry. I love the Orange but Berry is pretty darn good, too. If he is struggling to fall asleep at night, consider 1 capsule of Histamine Nutrients before bed to support healthy histamine levels which support healthy onset of sleep.* If he falls asleep well, then no need. High histamine levels are often present in those on the spectrum. Next time you post a question, please include symptoms and signs - besides lab values. Lab values are great but physical signs and symptoms are very helpful to know as well. In health, |
I have MTHFR gene, I use the homocysteine nutrient, my level homocysteine levels are high, is there a better alternative for me? | I would do a few things.
In health, |
I recently found out I’m heterozygous for the C677T polymorphism in the MTHFR gene. I’m a woman, almost 30. I have high homocysteine (14.9), serum methylmalonic acid looks good (158), hemoglobin, hematocrit, and MCV are all high and RDW is low. I ordered this supplement but now I’m wondering if it’s the best choice for me since I need to lower homocysteine but the methylmalonic acid would imply my b12 levels are okay? | You got the right one. Use Homocysteine Nutrients with a protein based breakfast. I'd also add in a serving of Optimal Electrolyte upon waking in the morning to support healthy hydration.* Healthy MMA levels are associated with sufficient adenosylcobalamin. You need methylcobalamin, methylfolate, B6, zinc and TMG to support healthy homocysteine levels.* In health, |
I currently take SAMe to help with anxiety - does wonders! (I am an undermethylator). Is it safe to take during pregnancy? I see mixed opinions on that. Also, I see you’ve discontinued your SAMe now and instead recommended Homocysteine Nutrients. But it doesn’t contain SAMe. Is there a different product that has SAMe? | Histamine Nutrients contains SAMe - and it is safe - and smart - to take during pregnancy. High histamine during pregnancy is associated with a plethora of pregnancy complications. Supporting healthy homocysteine and healthy histamine levels during pregnancy is massively important.* Homocysteine Nutrients supports the recycling of homocysteine into SAMe.* One has to eat sufficient protein to maintain this - but not excessive protein as that is problematic for homocysteine levels. I do think Histamine Nutrients is the better option for you based on what you shared. Thank you for sharing your details like that - easier to make a solid recommendation. In health, |
Will homocysteine nutrients help with borderline high blood pressure for a middle aged male? MTHFR compound heterozygous, NOS3 heterozygous and SOD2 and COMT homozygous. | High blood pressure is associated with high homocysteine levels. Homocysteine levels are associated with how healthy and functional your methylation pathway is. If your methylation pathway is dirty, then your homocysteine levels will be elevated and so will your blood pressure. Homocysteine Nutrients supports a healthy methylation pathway and thus, healthy homocysteine levels.* I would take 1 serving of this with a protein based breakfast. To support more effectively, take 1/2 to 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenge upon waking. Start with 1/2 a lozenge for a few days to get your body and head accustomed to it. Then, if you feel you need more support or don't feel anything from 1/2 lozenge, take a full one. Glutathione is essential for a healthy methylation pathway and supports healthy homocysteine levels.* If needing a multivitamin, Optimal Man is a comprehensive multivitamin for men. Consider 1-2 capsules with breakfast. If needing more support in the afternoon, take another 1-2 capsules. Do not take past 2 PM as it may keep you awake at night before bed. The serving size is 4 capsules a day but with you already taking Homocysteine Nutrients, I don't want you taking too much folate as it may increase irritability especially due to a slow COMT (if it is slow - homozygous may mean fast or slow depending on what report you did). I'd also add in Optimal Electrolyte to support healthy hydration.* Potassium deficiency is especially associated with high blood pressure. There is quite a bit of potassium in each serving of Optimal Electrolyte. If you like, you can try just Optimal Man, Glutathione Plus and Optimal Electrolyte and see how that combination does. If needing more support, then you could either increase how much Optimal Man you are taking - OR you can add in Homocysteine Nutrients. Stress also increases high blood pressure. If you're stressed out and needing to support healthy stress levels, consider Stress Nutrients. You would take 1-3 capsules with breakfast on days where you need to support healthy stress response and skip it on days you feel great.* I'd again, just try with Optimal Man first as this may help you take the edge off at 1-2 capsules a day with breakfast.* In health, Dehydration is associated with high blood pressure and high homocysteine. |
Hello. I recently found out that I have the MTHFR C677T gene. I had some levels tested, and my homocysteine is 13.8. My RBC folate is normal (567) and my B12 plasma is also normal (703). So I'm confused as to why the homocysteine is elevated with normal folate and B12 levels. - Would taking homocysteine nutrients help to lower my homocysteine levels? - What multi may I take in conjunction with this product, or should I not take a multi while taking this? - After how long after starting this supplement should I retest my homocysteine to see if levels have lowered, and do I stop this supplement at that point if normal? I'm wondering if homocysteine would need something for maintenance to keep it from going up once it's lowered. - Is it ok to take this HN with a slow COMT ? Confused as to whether methyls can affect a slow COMT. - I read that protein increases homocysteine. Is it all protein, or just animal protein? I'm wondering if going plant based might help. - Would exercising too much affect homocysteine? I exercise 45 minutes- 1 hr most days (elliptical machine) I have pre-diabetes, hypertension, low thyroid, and high cholesterol (currently on statins). | I prefer animal based protein over plant based personally. I do not think switching from one form to another is needed. Homocysteine metabolism is way more than just B12 and folate. You can have methyl trapping - and it looks like you may have just this issue. Methyl trapping is often associated with low levels of glutathione. Upon waking in the morning, use 1/2 to 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenge. Start with 1/2 but you'll likely need a full one. This supports healthy glutathione levels.* I'd consider Optimal Man which is a multivitamin for men. Consider taking 2 capsules with a protein based breakfast. You would NOT use Homocysteine Nutrients in addition to this. It's one or the other. I do think using Optimal Man is better suited as it's more comprehensive. Yes, exercise definitely increases homocysteine. Before exercising, I'd consider Pre-Workout Nutrients. This supports healthy methylation and healthy homocysteine levels.* Support healthy cholesterol levels by taking 2 capsules of Gallbladder Nutrients before dinner.* When eating protein, it's best to not over consume too much in one sitting as this definitely increases homocysteine and metabolic disturbances. Retest fasted homocysteine levels in the morning - in one month of following this suggested support. In health, |
Hello, What would be the dose for 2.5 year old? He has methylation problem. Thanks | I recommend using Glutathione Plus Lozenge - 1/4 lozenge to start - first thing in the morning Then I would give him 1/4 to 1/2 a chewable of Kids Multivitamin Chewable with his protein based breakfast. You want him feeling good, with energy and in a healthy mood. Both these supplements support these.* This combination is better suited for him. |
Hi. Is this Homocysteine Nutrients supplement safe for a teen to take? We are looking for something for our 14.5 year old boy to take to lower his homocysteine levels (12.7), and we are wondering if the Betaine (TMG) at 700 mg in this supplement is ok for teens. We would also like to know if this product should be taken long term, or only until homocysteine levels come down | Yes it is safe for your son. Have him take with breakfast. I'd also have him use 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus lozenge upon waking up in the morning. Have it on his bed stand. Glutathione levels are very important for healthy methylation and homocysteine requires healthy methylation. He would use this until his homocysteine levels reach the desired healthy level of 7 - 9 umol/L He would also likely do well with the Kids Multivitamin Chewable at 1 chewable with breakfast. Start there. I say 1 chewable as he's already getting sufficient B12 and folate from the Homocysteine Nutrients. The multivitamin chewable provides him the additional nutrients he needs that are not found in the Homocysteine Nutrients. In health, |
My homocysteine is elevated at 12.6, but I'm not sure how concerning or high this is considered since the upper range is 11. Unfortunately, I am very sensitive to methyls and I wouldn't be able to tolerate this supplement. Do you have any other products for lowering homocysteine for those methyl sensitive, and are there any plans for a Seeking Health MF homocysteine product in the future? I take your MF multi everyday, so would adding 1/2 of a Hydro B12 with Folinic Acid and TMG lower my levels? TMG usually comes in 500 mg or 1000 mg, but since your supplement has 700 mg, I wonder whether to take 1 or 2 of the 500 mg capsules and whether to also add B2 separately. | A doctor just asked me last weekend to make a Homocysteine Nutrients MF version that has TMG in it but no methyl B12 or methylfolate. I may just do that. Homocysteine at 12.6 umol/L does need to be addressed. I'd consider these: Brain Nutrients Lozenge: Take 1/2 to 1 full lozenge upon waking in the morning. This has the hydroxo B12 and folinic acid along with antioxidants, no methyl groups. It also has zinc and magnesium. I like taking Brain Nutrients in smaller amounts a few times a day. I do better with it this way than I do 1 full lozenge at the same time. I just took about 1/2 lozenge about an hour ago. My brain is ON and feeling great. I will likely take another half lozenge in a few hours as I use my brain hard all day. It could be the perfect addition for you - for supporting your homocysteine levels and your cognition and brain health. I'd also watch how much protein your are eating in one sitting. If you are eating too much protein, you are making a lot of homocysteine from that. Digestive Enzymes may be helpful as well. Take 1 capsule with dinner and possibly lunch to support healthy protein digestion. In health, |
Hi, I ended up with Homocystine nutrients by mistake. I ordered something else through Amazon once and ended up with it. I tried it since I had it and after starting to read Dirty Genes I thought I might have some methylation issues. I feel great when I use it but am wondering if it's safe to keep using with Brain Nutrients, Optimal Focus, and Dopamine Nutrients. | Sometimes mistakes turn out well ;) If you feel great, then that's what you want. Be mindful how each of these supplements support you - how do they make you feel and how often do you need them - and how much? Take mental note of that. There are days when you won't need any of them and there will be days when you need all of them and more than usual. Homocysteine Nutrients is actually pretty smart to use along with these other supplements. That is because a lot of methylation is required to support healthy neurotransmission balance. In health, |
I did not react well to methylated items when I tried them earlier this year. I currently take Seeking Health's Optimal Prenatal MF and I tolerate it very well. My Homocysteine level was a 12.6 umol/L at the end of January. Do you recommend me adding this (or something else) to ensure my Homocysteine levels lower? I am not currently pregnant but hoping to sometime in 2024. | I would add Glutathione Plus Lozenges - take 1 lozenge in the morning upon waking. I would also add Hydroxo B12 with Folinic Acid Lozenges - and take 1/2 lozenge upon waking with the glutathione lozenge. Then, with breakfast, take your Optimal Prenatal MF 2-3 capsules, then 2-3 capsules with lunch and if needing an afternoon support, consider 2 more capsules then. If you have difficulty falling asleep, then take 3-4 capsules with breakfast and 3-4 with lunch and skip the afternoon dose. Make sure you are fasting and measure your homocysteine in the morning. I'd also adjust how much exercise you are doing and how much protein you are eating at night. If you are exercising hard, that makes more homocysteine. High protein meals also increase homocysteine. Have a lower protein dinner - not a 'low protein' dinner but a lower protein dinner - meaning do not eat a large steak but add in some carbs and fats. In health, |
Hello. Would my husband benefit from increasing to 2 capsules per day to normalize high blood pressure, and also help with better mood and energy? Or, would it be better to add something else like glutathione and maybe even more L-Methylfolate? | Great question. I would spread out the support as you suggested as well. Have him continue the Homocysteine Nutrients - one capsule with breakfast OR move it to lunch. Consider 2 capsules of Optimal Man with breakfast in addition to having him take 1 lozenge of Glutathione Plus Lozenge upon waking. Optimal Electrolyte (unflavored one) is highly recommended as well. It seems an odd recommendation, but trust me on it: 1-2 capsules of Gallbladder Nutrients before dinner. And 1 capsule of ProBiota HistaminX after dinner. Is TMG safe to take at this dosage during pregnancy? | Yes it is if your homocysteine levels are higher than 9 umol/L. I recommend using Prenatal Essentials or Optimal Prenatal before introducing Homocysteine Nutrients. Optimal Prenatal has more methyl donors than Prenatal Essentials. This means that Optimal Prenatal is more effective at supporting a healthy homocysteine level than Prenatal Essentials. If homocysteine is significantly higher - say around 11 umol/L, and you are taking one of our prenatal vitamins, then yes, do use Homocysteine Nutrients. You may also need to use 1/2 lozenge of Glutathione Plus each morning as well to support healthy methylation and homocysteine levels during pregnancy. In health, |
I stopped taking this (because I ran out), and two days later experienced moderate to severe tinnitus. I tried taking some I had with the hydroxocobalmin form of B12, but quickly experienced intense irritability/agitation. I got some more of this product in the mail (so grateful for the fast shipping) and my tinnitus improved by 80% within a few hours! Unfortunately, after a few days, it seems to have returned. I’m wondering if I can take two of these capsules daily, if that would be safe? I also have the methyl B12 1000 µg supplement that I’ve been adding in small doses but haven’t noticed a difference. I do have methylation issues related to MTHFR and issues with histamine as well. | Glad to hear Homocysteine Nutrients is helping. Yes, you may use more as needed. Some days you may find you need more and others days less. I’d add:
