I have recently started the folinic acid at 1 tablet per day. I noticed that my urine smelled like vinegar and when I used pH strips to test found that it is highly acidic. Can folinic acid cause this? I also started hawthorn and then motherwort to help with AFib symptoms. Could the herbs be the cause or the folinic acid? When I use Seeking Health electrolytes the pH returns to normal. Thank you. | There are many factors which can turn the urine acidic. That's cool you're checking and the electrolytes supports it back to a healthy pH. I'm not sure what is causing it. I'd consider eliminating them all to get a baseline without any supplements. Then add one per day and check. As long as you feel good when you're taking these additional supplements, I'd say you're ok especially since the electrolyte is supporting a healthy pH.* In health, |
Hello, I have a patient that cannot tolerate methylfolate , so I have her taking your product folinic acid. 800mcg. For her depression it is recommended that she take 5-15 mg of methylfolate. that means she would need to take 5-10 of your folinic acid pills a day? am I missing something here ?do you have a product that has a greater dose of folinic acid in it? thanks for any help and advice I can pass on to her. thank you | 5 - 15 mg of methylfolate seems like a really high dose. I'm not sure why that dose is recommended for depression. In my clinical experience, when you need very high doses of any nutrient it means you are missing something. I would at most give her 2 capsules a day of Folinic Acid. Her body will decide what to do with it:
The only times I suggest higher doses is if the person has FOLR antibodies, which you can test for. Hope this helps :). Elizma Lambert (ElizmaLambert.com) |
Hello, I had a question about folic acid in dairy. I see that many dairy farmers supplement their cows with folic acid to increase lactation. Could there be any residue of the folic acid in our dairy products? I have a double MTHFR mutation and although I have stopped consuming enriched foods, I have seen no improvement in symptoms. I do consume a lot of a dairy and wondered if I am unknowingly getting folic acid through the dairy. My doctors are not buying into the folic acid/methylated differences. I think my symptoms are due to folate deficiency. Additionally,my son was born with a partial cleft palate - and I was given folic acid before and during pregnancy. Any thoughts on dairy containing folic acid from cow supplementation? thanks so much! | I don't think folic acid in dairy is an issue. Many doctors don't know how to read or learn themselves. They just go to work and rinse/repeat. There are great doctors who do dedicate time to learning and listening. Read this and watch the video - it's very informative - and cited by research. I actually read and learn. All my information is cited - share this with your doctors - if they will even listen but it's worth shot. Folic acid is FAR from activated folate. I'd like to know what symptoms you're struggling with as that would help me direct you better. Generally speaking, I can give you some foundational support to consider:
Start here and I suspect you'll feel so much better in as fast as 1 day. In health, |
Hallo. I wanted to know what it means and what to do if Megafolini causes some headache and drowsiness. | Typically it's associated with taking too much. Consider reducing the amount to 1/2 what you are taking now and also reduce it to half the frequency. If you're taking 1 mg of methylfolate once a day, consider 500 mcg every other day. We have lozenge of Methylfolate which make this easy to do. The side effects may be due to various reasons: In health, |
If there are other supplements needed for maximum absorption? Should he also take Leucovorin? What B vitamin supplement does doctor recommend for adult son with autism? | Leucovorin is folinic acid. Whether your son needs high doses of folinic acid and/or Leucovorin would be a question for your son's health practitioner. For maximal absorption and utilization of Folinic Acid, make sure your son does not consume synthetic folic acid supplements or processed foods enriched with synthetic folic acid. Also, make sure your son does not have SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) or other gut disorders that could affect his absorption of nutrients. If he does have SIBO, you could use:
A B vitamin that may be more suitable for your son may be B Complex MF. Hope this helps :) Elizma Lambert (ElizmaLambert.com) |
7 year old boy is hyperactive and irritable. Blood test shows low folates (20,4 nmol/L). We have tried methylfolate and folinic acid. With both forms of folate hyperactivity and irritability raises with even a small dose (1/4 folinic acid tablet). What could be the mechanism of action that leads to that outcome? How to support folate levels and also lower irritability and hyperactivity? | Hi Andi - Do you have his vitamin D levels? Kids Optimal Focus is coming soon. This is something I'd consider for him. Hello Dr. Lynch, I am about to start a new supplement "protocol" based on your recommendations from an earlier question I had. (I have high homocysteine - at about 17 for the past 15 years - I am now 66 years old/female. The number is still high - even with taking good doses and using reputable companies for many years - Methyl folate, TMG Betaine, and more). I also have hypothyroidism for past 20 years - and NOW found out from labs that my Thyroid numbers are elevated and my Iron is low - which makes a lot of sense since I have begun to get winded just going up stairs, a bit dizzy upon standing, etc. And noticing an increase in afternoon fatigue (maybe Adrenals? ). I ordered what you recommended from your company and plan to being anew. BUT, wondering if I should add in Folinic Acid lozenges - due to the low iron? Thank you for the assistance! | A tired thyroid needs healthy adrenal support. I highly recommend you consider the Adrenal Cortex and take 1 capsule with breakfast. I am not sure if you need the additional Folinic acid or not. I'd consider our Iron Chewables along with eating grass fed liver. Have you used Glutathione? If low in glutathione, your homocysteine will not lower at all unless you get this back to a healthy level. Consider Glutathione Plus lozenges and take 1 lozenge upon waking. In health, |
Hello I ordered brain nutrients and folonic acid in past few days but not sure what my daughter should actually start trying? Which would be more beneficial Folinic Acid or Brain Nutrients for 21 yr female inattentive ADHD (never been clinically diagnosed but all things have pointed to having it for years never taken meds for ADHD) Was previously on Lexapro for anxiety and depression which helped for the anxiety but not the ADHD. Currently not on any meds (stopped lexapro a few months ago) but needs help for both anxiety and the inattentive adhd. Could go back on Lexapro but like to try your products first. In addition to the above please know that this is for a collegiate athlete (swimmer) subjected to being in chlorine pool approx 20 hours a week Sept to March! I just watched the you tube video interview where Dr. Lynch talked about MTHFR and also glutathione needs and exposure to things like chlorine etc. Her blood work in Dec 2023 showed she was anemic the count was I believe 15 so very low and she took iron pills for couple months but not taking them anymore. Not had blood checked again hope to soon. thank you very much PS please do NOT put my chat/email on your FB page or website...like to keep it confidential | I would say Brain Nutrients. Brain Nutrients has folinic acid in it - at 100 mcg per serving or so. Lexapro is a SSRI which supports serotonin. That will not support ADHD. If you need to support her serotonin levels, consider Serotonin Nutrients as it supports healthy serotonin levels.* Inattentive ADHD is associated with low dopamine and low norepinephrine. To support those neurotransmitters, consider a combination of Brain Nutrients with Dopamine Nutrients - 1 of each - to support healthy dopamine and healthy norepi levels.* To support chlorine metabolism, consider the Glutathione Plus Lozenges - at 1 lozenge prior to her swimming and likely another after swimming. The Optimal Electrolyte would be supportive for her as well. The Pre-Workout Nutrients would be fantastic for her prior to a competition or a tough practice as it supports healthy muscles and endurance.* In health, |
Hi Ben, would it be ok to take 2 folonic acid lozenges, plus the non methyl B Complex? 2000mcg total. I read online that a symptom of low folate is low appetite. I used to have a good appetite but now it it very low. I took 2000mcg for 2/3 days and my appetite came back. Not sure if I should increase the dose or not. What's the maximum you would advise? Thank you, good health to you, Helen | That's interesting - I've never heard this. Thank you for sharing. Take the amount that works well for you. It is ok to take this amount as long as you feel good from it. Here's what else I suggest:

Does Folinic Acid work with impaired MTHFS? I notice that is involved in the Folinic Acid cycle? I'm also homozygous variant for MTHFR C677T,and SLC18A1 (with slow MAOA and CO.MT so know I should avoid Methylfolate). MTHFD, MTR, MTRR are also hetero (just for info). Thanks! | Yes, folinic acid supports the folate pathway overall despite a SNP in the MTHFS gene. I wouldn't say you should avoid methylfolate because of your other SNPs. I would say you should be mindful that you may be sensitive and not need that much of it due to the SNPs. The information online is vastly inaccurate regarding what to do, what to take and how to support SNPs. SNPs are a FRACTION of what influences your genetic expression so one cannot, and must not, dictate their actions based on SNPs alone. Use methylfolate and folinic acid - be mindful how you feel. Some days you will feel great and other days you may realize you shouldn't have taken either of them. I can say after nearly 15 years of studying and working with SNPs that there are many things we do not know that are shaping our reactions and responses to things. While we want to be confident in our decision making with supplements, it's dangerous thinking we know what to swallow based on one or two SNPs. Did you know we have well over a million SNPs in each of us? It's true. Best, |
Can you advise please. My son is anaemic with high ferritin levels. He is being tested for Haemochomatosis and we await the result of that as his liver markers are high. My question is around folic acid. He has been prescribed 5mg daily of folic acid as his blood test has tested low and his red blood cell count is low - I have read Dr. Lynch's articles on the subject of Folic Acid. I don't know if he has the MTHFR mutation - we are going to either test for that or get a DNA test and use your StrateGene Report. But in the meantime I have ordered your Folinic Acid from your UK distributor. Can you tell me if he has been prescribed 5mg of Folic Acid what dose of Folinic Acid to take. Is one lozenge a day sufficient to replace the quantity of folic acid prescribed? (I decided to play safe given my son has a few health complexities going on and buy Folinic Acid as opposed to L-Methylfolate after reading your ever so helpful blogs.) Thanking you for any guidance. | Folic acid is not ideal as you're aware now which is great. I would start him on 1 lozenge of Folinic acid. Folinic acid is superior than methylfolate in supporting healthy red blood cells - regardless if MTHFR genetic variations are present or not. You want your son to have more energy and in good moods. If you see your son start becoming irritable, difficulty sleeping or headaches, he is getting too much of the Folinic Acid. If that happens, skip a few days until he is back to being good again. Then introduce the Folinic acid back again but at 1/2 the amount and at 1/2 the frequency - say every other day vs every day. He may need a combination of B12 and folate and in that case he may do best with Hydroxo B12 with Folinic Acid Lozenges - and at 1/2 a lozenge. In health, |
Can you please explain what symptoms this supplement will correct? You keep referring to symptoms. Trying to understand which symptoms this could help and also the major differences between this and L-Methlfolate to choose the correct one. | Folinic acid supports healthy*:
These are a good start :) Best to take 1/2 to 1 lozenge first thing in the morning. If you're looking for a more comprehensive brain support supplement which supports healthy energy, cognition, focus and mood, then look at Brain Nutrients Lozenge. Take 1/2 to 1 lozenge upon waking in the morning and another 1/2 to 1 lozenge later in the day when you feel a slide in mood or mental performance as it supports healthy focus and mood.* I'd also add in Optimal Electrolyte and sip it slowly over time to support healthy hydration - the foundational requirement for health since we are 70% water. Hello, Is there a reason why a person with slow comt tolerates low doses of folinic acid worse than low doses of methylfolate( in a multivitamin)? .I only tolerate fine folic acid. Thank you! | I am not sure. Possibly because methylfolate supports methylation which a Slow COMT needs and folinic acid needs more methylation in order to be transformed into methylfolate thereby slowing COMT further. Folic acid itself should never really be used. It is not helping your biochemistry - it is dirtying it. Consider using other forms of methyl support or use less folate. You may not need as much folate as you think you do especially if you are not anemic or have high homocysteine. Consider using your multivitamin just a few days a week. That's what I do. In health, |
This seems like a good option when there are markers for methyl folate sensitivity. However, is this still the best form of folate when one also has the MTHFR rs6495446 -+ Heterozygous CT mutation and there is a genetic cause for folinic acid or Leucovorin avoidance? | You supplement based on what you need not based solely on SNPs. I talk about this so much and it's incredibly important. The internet is absolutely full of incorrect information. Please read Dirty Genes. I believe that will help guide you. In health, |
Would like to try this product but cannot order just one bottle Only 30, 60,90 day offer? | You may order one bottle, yes. The page is set up for you to do that. Just click 'Add to cart' and that should work. ;) The 30,60,90 is for the Subscribe and Save if you'd like to do that. I can see how that is confusing. We are working on redoing that area for our customers. In health, |
