Digestive Enzymes Dr. Lynch product Q&AUpdated 8 hours ago

Question Answer
Before I found your supplements, I was taking hydro-some for digestive enzymes. It works for me. But it has ammonium chloride in it and I notice your digestive enzymes don’t have that. Is that a bad ingredient?

Hi Bob -

That doesn't sound like an ingredient your body wants -I suspect it's more for acid-base balance and reflux.

I would avoid ammonium chloride.

One may support healthy digestion with our Digestive Enzymes - 1-2 capsules with meals. If needing further support, especially with too much acid, consider using 3-5 capsules of Gut Nutrients first thing upon waking and 3 capsules before bed to support a healthy gut lining.*

Will this be effective for a lipid transfer protein allergy (the one with anaphylactic to things like lettuce and peaches)? I read it is resistance to some digestive enzymes. Also will your histamine support bundle work on that? And can your gut repair line fix my intestines so these proteins can’t keep leaking out? Thank you!

Hi Jenny -

If one is anaphylactic to a food, it should be avoided completely.

I would not rely on any supplement to reduce such an allergic reaction as it's not safe.

To support a healthy gut, we can help you there.

Here is our Leaky Gut Guide which is very informative:

I purchased this but now realize I should have checked if all ingredients are safe for MCAS. I could google each ingredient but hoping you can advise. I’m taking Histamine digest before eating but hoping to take this instead if I’m eating all low histamine food. Thank you

Hi Julie -

Yep - you're good to go! :)

Good idea to support with digestive enzymes when eating a low histamine diet.

I'd also consider ProBiota HistaminX and take 1 capsule after dinner to support healthy histamine levels in your microbiome.*

Hello. Do these digestive enzymes support the pancreas as well? Say if you have EPI .. will these help in the same way pancreatic enzymes work? Ty!
Digestive Enzymes does contain pancreatic enzymes (amylase, lipase, protease) which support healthy pancreatic function.

It does not contain the high amounts that prescription medications such as CREON for EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency) do.

Someone with EPI may need higher doses of pancreatic enzymes.

If you have significant pancreatic insufficiency it's best to ask your healthcare practitioner.

Hi! I have mold sickness and MCAS. I have a gastic ucler and candida toxicity from the mold as well. LIFE SUCKS right now! I see one of the ingredients in this look suspect to me to take with MCAS and Mold. One of the ingredients is fungal. Is this a good product for MCAS patients with a heavy load of mold in their body?

That does suck.

Let's get you on the right track.

Consider:

  • Glutathione Plus Lozenges: 1/2 to 1 lozenge upon waking and then another 1 or 2 more throughout the day
  • Optimal Electrolyte: 1 serving upon waking
  • Gut Nutrients: 3 capsules upon waking and another 3 capsules before bed - away from food to support a healthy gut and stomach lining.* Very important.
  • Bile Nutrients: 2 capsules before dinner
  • Liver Nutrients: 1 capsule after dinner
  • Fish Oil: 1 capsule after dinner
  • Saccharomyces Boulardii: 1 capsule after dinner until the bottle is gone then stop.
  • ProBiota HistaminX: 1 capsule after dinner
  • sweat. Saunas are a great way to support mold detoxification.

I'd hold off on the Digestive Enzymes for now. I don't want to exposure your ulcer to them without first addressing a healthy gut lining by using the Gut Nutrients.*

You should notice improvement within the first day :)

Hi, since I have a hard time swallowing caps, I was told it was ok to open caps and add to small bit if water and swallow. When doing this I see that the sides of the glass are covered with the ascorbyl palimate and maybe the silica. It is very gritty and bothered my throat so I sipped it thru my lips. I don't know if I really want to swallow that stuff that sticks to the glass? It is really gritty, feels like sand ? I also find I get really thirsty after I take it and my throat even with the straining thru my lips still gets enough of the gritty stuff to make it scratchy and rough feeling for hours ? :( Is it acidic? Would it be hard on my gums and teeth? I am having a hard time with fiber and this is part of why I am taking the digestive enzymes, will this gritty solution dissolve in my stomach or pass through my intestines and maybe bother them? Thank you, Laura
Enzymes are designed to digest.

When taking digestive enzymes in water, you may be experiencing some of the enzymes drying out your mucosal membranes.

I recommend using our Digestive Enzyme Chewables. Note that our chewables are 1/2 the potency of the capsules so you'll need twice as much.

A trick for swallowing capsules:

  • have a bite of food and swallow it.
  • then take another smaller bite of food that is essentially already to swallow - like organic applesauce -and toss the capsule in your mouth without thinking and swallow both the applesauce and capsule at the same time.

I find that many people over think swallowing capsules. It's just like food - pop it in a moist mouth, add a bit of food or water and swallow. That's all that needs to be done.

Of course there may be structural reasons possibly why you cannot swallow capsules - but it not - then I'd try the above.

I have a hard time swallowing any caps, can these be opened and mixed with a small bit of water and swallowed or even put on food that isn't hot?

You can mix Digestive Enzymes with a small bit of water or even some honey or maple syrup.

If you mix it with food it will likely digest the food and turn it mushy or liquid. That's what I discovered many years ago after mixing digestive enzymes with porridge for my young son.

It just turned to liquid almost straight away. Which makes sense since that's what digestive enzymes are designed to do, i.e. digest food.

Hope this helps :)

Would this be good for someone who feels they are experiencing acid reflux? Yes as it supports healthy digestion.*

Additionally, consider:

  • ProBiota HistaminX: 1 capsule after dinner to support healthy histamine levels in the stomach.* High histamine in the stomach is associated with acid reflux.
  • Gut Nutrients: 3 capsules before bed and 3 capsules upon waking to support a healthy gut lining.*
  • Gallbladder Nutrients: 2 capsules before dinner to support healthy bile production and bile flow.* Low bile is associated with putting back pressure on the intestines and stomach contributing to acid reflux. It's a common issue that is missed all the time.
  • Digestive Enzymes: 1-2 capsules per meal.

Would this be the best option to take with ProBiota HistaminX for pregnancy related constipation? I was taking the probiotic before pregnancy with great success, but I am really struggling since becoming pregnant. You may continue taking this during pregnancy.

I'd also add in Optimal PC and take this 3 nights a week after dinner.

Make sure you are staying hydrated as well as dehydration is common during pregnancy and is a contributor to constipation. Consider Optimal Electrolyte - 1 to 3 servings a day.

My partner literally cannot keep his eyes open as soon as he has finished a meal, and has to go and sleep for half an hour. Why is this, and would digestive enzymes help him? Thank you. I suspect he is eating foods which are not agreeing with him.

One should feel more energized after a meal not fatigued.

Consider:

  • 100% gluten free
  • 100% cow dairy free
  • consume more red meat
  • eat more fresh organic fruit and honey
  • eat less vegetables
  • eat goat dairy products

Additionally, consider:

  • Optimal Man: 2 capsules with breakfast
  • Glutathione Plus lozenge: 1/2 to 1 lozenge upon waking in the morning
  • Fish Oil: 1 capsule after dinner
  • ProBiota HistaminX: 1 capsule after dinner
  • Gallbladder Nutrients: 2 capsules before dinner
  • Optimal Electrolyte: 1-3 servings a day

This should help immensely for him.

OK. Thanks for your reply. So for someone who has had their gallbladder removed in February of this year and has a histamine overload issues, what do you recommend me taking to help with bile and help with digestion, bloating, gas? I ordered the histamineX probiotics and was wondering what else would help support my lack of a gallbladder. I recommend Gallbladder Nutrients. I realize it seems odd but the function of this supplement is actually to support healthy bile production and bile flow.*

The reason why gallbladders get removed in the first place is often due to poor bile production and bile flow.

Consider:

  • Gallbladder Nutrients: 2 capsules before lunch and 2 before dinner
  • Digestive Enzymes: 1-2 capsules with each meal
  • Ox Bile: 1 capsule with meals that are high fat as it supports healthy digestion of fat.* The Digestive Enzymes also do this so you may not need the Ox Bile but in some situations you may need it. It would be good to have on hand in times of need.

Are digestive enzymes a substitute for prebiotics? Apples and oranges. :)

They are not.

What size are the capsules? Are the capsules enteric coated? My stomach is very sensitive to proteases, but I can sometimes put irritating supplements inside an enteric coated capsule so it will get past my stomach. I cannot take Gut Nutrients or Optimal GI because of the slippery elm (aggravates SIBO and interferes with thyroid medication absorption) and citrus pectin probably because it's a histamine liberator. I feel like I have been going around in circles the last few years trying to both heal my gut (gastric and SIBO) and deal with histamine. Products for the gut aggravate the histamine. Since a parasitic infections nearly 6 years ago I lost weight and haven't been able to gain it back and have needed more and more thyroid meds. The bottleneck seems to be my stomach and SIBO. If that can heal the rest will likely follow. So frustrating. I recommend working with a healthcare professional.
https://www.seekinghealth.com/pages/practitioner-directory

These are not enteric coated as they do not need to be as they are plant based enzymes which are broadly acting across many pH's.

Consider:

  • Ox Bile: take 1 capsule with food to support a healthy microbiome as ox bile is unfavorable to many microorganisms.* You may want to take a capsule before be as well on an empty stomach or nearly empty as it will work better away from food so the bacteria are more exposed.
  • Saccharomyces Boulardii: take 1-2 capsules after dinner as this is a strain that supports those with SIBO as it supports a healthy microbiome.*

I took plant-based digestive enzymes years ago and broke out in hives. I'm severely sensitive to mold which I was told was the cause. I have been taking pancreatic enzymes but find they just don't work as well. I saw your previous response about this formula being Ok for those sensitive to mold. Hesitant to try but would love something that works better. Is your formula different and do you think it's worth trying? I would try our Digestive Enzyme capsules, yes.

If they don't work well for you, ask for a refund.

I'd also consider taking 2-4 capsules of Gallbladder Nutrients before dinner. Start low and work up. You're looking for a well-formed, easy to pass bowel movement with stools that sink.*

Can I take this if I have histamine intolerance? I recently tried one with ox bile and kept getting a migraine. My DAO supplement alone is not helping along with Probiota histaminx to reduce symptoms...migraine, rash, etc. Yes you may and it is recommended.

Take 2 capsules with each meal to support healthy digestion of protein, fats and carbohydrates.*

Ox Bile may increase die-off of various bacteria or viruses in the microbiome which release noxious chemicals and gasses thereby giving you a migraine.

There may have been other ingredients in the digestive enzymes which trigger migraines. Many digestive enzymes contain egg derived ingredients which many with migraines struggle with.

Consider:

  • Histamine Bundle: this is a comprehensive histamine support bundle which supports healthy histamine levels and healthy blood flow.* Many with migraines have excessive histamine. The bundle also comes with the Histamine Workbook which helps guide you to understanding and identifying which things in your life are contributing to increasing and decreasing histamine.

  • Gallbladder Nutrients: a congested gallbladder leads to histamine intolerance, migraines, constipation and general fatigue and irritability. Consider 2 capsules before dinner to support healthy bile production and bile flow.* Even if you don't have a gallbladder, this is supportive - which is why we are changing the name to Bile Nutrients.

  • Brain Nutrients: at the immediate first signs of getting a headache, consider 1/2 a lozenge to support healthy blood flow and healthy head.* This has helped a number of people.

  • Fish Oil: consider 1 capsule after dinner to support healthy omega 3 levels and healthy cell membranes which are critical for a healthy brain.*

  • DIM+I3C: if you are experiencing migraines around ovulation, it may be because of the big spike in estrogen at this time. Consider 1 capsule after dinner around day 7 to day 15 or so to support healthy estrogen levels.* High estrogen levels increase histamine which is a known trigger for migraines.

Hello! If I am sensitive to mold, can I take digestive enzymes with fungal maltase? Thanks!!

Yes you may.

Mold that you are sensitive to is different than what is found in Digestive Enzymes.

Plus, the fungus that the maltase was derived from is likely absent or in very low amounts. If an enzyme is grown on a fungus, it does not mean the fungus is still present.

I am sensitive to mold myself - very sensitive to it.

The best way to become less sensitive to mold is to:

Can I take these at the same time as my vitamins and iron supplement? or do I need to wait a certain amount of time before taking my supplements. Yes you may.

All of these should be taken with food.

Digestive Enzymes may be taken with all meals.

Your vitamins often should be taken with breakfast.

Iron can be taken with any meal of the day. If it's causing nausea, consider our Optimal Iron and take with dinner.

Hello! What are the inactive ingredients in The Digestive Enzymes? I have a severe allergy to corn and a couple other common ingredients. Thanks! The inactive ingredients used are Ascorbyl Palmitate, Silicon dioxide, Microcrystalline Cellulose, l-Leucine. In some case there may be components in these material that may be derived from common materials such as corn, rice or potato. Due to the highly processed nature there are no proteins from starting materials left in the final material.

Is there a reason hydrochloric acid isn't part of of this product and would that be good for people with bloat after meals?

It's because not everyone tolerates HCL.

I do need to make a HCL supplement and I have not yet done so.

I do have HCL in our Gallbladder Nutrients as healthy bile production and bile flow requires sufficient stomach acid.*

Consider using 2 capsules of Gallbladder Nutrients before dinner to support healthy bile production and bile flow.* This supports healthy motility as well which then reduces bloating.*

If needing more stomach acid, then consider sipping a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in an ounce of filtered water prior to eating your meals.

Are these the new replacement for the Digestive Intensive? Yes. The capsules are more potent than the prior formulation and packaged in a more stable container.

Hello Dr. Lynch, My son and I both have confirmed sucrase deficiency. Our gastro Dr. prescribed Sucraid but it’s expensive. Wondering if this supplement would help us instead help us digest our food better? We also have leaky gut so trying to heal from that too. Thank you! Sucraid contains 17,000 IU of sacrosidase derived from saccharomyces cerversiae.

I am not sure how much benefit you will receive from taking our Digestive Enzymes.

I suspect some as our enzymes are quite a potent blend.

If two capsules per serving is not sufficient for you, it is safe to take more with your meal.

I would also consider trying adding Saccharomyces Boulardii and taking that after dinner - along with ProBiota HistaminX - one capsule each.

Optimal GI capsules or Gut Nutrients powder may support a healthy gut lining.

You can take the Gut Nutrients powder upon waking - sipping it slowly - 1 scoop.

Then take around 3 capsules of Optimal GI capsules before bed.

Hi there, I’ve taken a variety of vitamins and minerals to help with my gut situation and joint pain but don’t seem to notice a difference. I was wondering if Digestive enzymes would help with absorption? I previously took a digestive enzyme (different brand) without change. Just recently started your Glutathione plus, hoping this can help as well.

I'd start with Gallbladder Nutrients.
https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/gallbladder-nutrients

Start with 2 capsules before dinner.

If needing more support, take either 2 capsules before lunch and 2 before dinner OR 4 capsules before dinner.

This is useful for people with or without a gallbladder.

I do agree that Digestive Enzymes (capsules) is also a good choice and take with each meal - but I think the problem is deeper which is why the Gallbladder Nutrients must be used in addition.

I'd also recommend ProBiota HistaminX and take 1 capsule after dinner.

This combination should help a lot.

Next time you have a question, please do be specific with what you're trying to do as I then can direct you better. 'Gut situation' is pretty general :)

Joint pain is commonly associated with food intolerances. I'd consider going 100% gluten-free and cow-dairy free for 2 weeks and see how you improve.

Hi Dr. Lynch, What would you be your protocol for treating leaky gut/repairing gut lining? Thanks much, Hannah It's complicated.

I will say that next month, I am providing a Gut Health webinar for Members. Love to see you there!
https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/membership

Generally speaking, I'd start with bile production and flow which is not where most people start.

I'd use Gallbladder Nutrients. 2 capsules before lunch and 2 capsules before dinner.

With meals, I'd use the Digestive Enzymes. Definitely agree with this.

Upon waking up in the morning, I'd mix 1 scoop of Gut Nutrients in a 8 oz glass of water. Sip it. Then repeat again later in the day between lunch and dinner.

OR what you can do is mix 2 scoops of Gut Nutrients in a 1 liter water bottle with filtered water. Then sip it over an hour or so - ideally on an empty stomach or away from food.

At night before bed, I'd use 1 capsule of ProBiota HistaminX and 1 capsule of Saccharomyces Boulardii.

If you're really reacting to foods high in histamine, I'd support a healthy histamine response with Histamine Digest. Take that with meals.

High histamine really triggers a leaky gut so Histamine Digest could be very useful. You may want to take 1 capsule of this before bed as well - away from food.

Then I'd remove offending foods as well. I'd definitely go gluten-free and cow-dairy free.

Since a bad h pylori infection I have both low stomach acid and a weak stomach mucosal lining. I also have low enzymes. Digestive enzymes with proteases hurt my stomach. I have looked for digestive enzyme blends that have everything but protease but there are limited options. This is an increasingly common problem. I love the quality of SH supplements. Is SH considering or would you consider creating an enzyme blend that is like this one but without the proteases and without herbs as well? The only 2 options I can find have herbs that are supposed to sooth the stomach but they interfere with medication absorption and make me feel unwell. I think there is a market for it.
What we need to do is support a healthy gut lining.

Here are some suggestions:

Gut Nutrients: take 1 scoop in the morning upon waking - away from food. Then I'd mix another scoop in a water bottle. Sip throughout the day between meals.
https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/gut-nutrients

Optimal GI: take 3 capsules before bed
https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/optimal-gi

Saccharomyces Boulardii: take 1 capsule after dinner
https://www.seekinghealth.com/products/saccharomyces-boulardii

After 2 weeks on this program, you will likely be able to use our Digestive Enzymes.
